Releasing Med Records of Abortions? WA state
Edited on Fri Feb-11-05 12:26 PM by fortyfeetunder
Please DU this neanderthal:

http://www1.leg.wa.gov/Senate/SRC/MediaCenter/StevensAbortionReports020805.htm

"OLYMPIA…Sen. Val Stevens, R-Arlington, has sponsored Senate Bill 5836, which changes the process of how the Department of Health tracks abortions performed in the state of Washington.

The bill stops the department from immediately shredding the termination of pregnancy report, requires the report to be kept for four years, and has the department send a copy of the report to the birth mother. If the biological father is known, he would also receive a copy.

“Abortions are heart-wrenching acts that leave emotional scars for every mother,” said Stevens, a member of the Family Policy Council and the Joint Committee on Abstinence Education and Motivation. “Unfortunately, some people use abortions as a form of birth control.

“I don’t expect this bill to stop abortions. But I do hope it will keep some mothers from having two, three, or four abortions, which
puts their health in danger,” Stevens added.

here we go again. Does she think a woman who had an abortion needs another reminder that she had one? Once again intrusive and harassment a la legislation.

And if you want to send an e-mail to her, use this link:

1. To paraphrase Sen. Stevens
Unfortunately, some people use morality as a form of mind control.

13. Thanks for writing
I think this neanderthal needs to be spanked down.
She is not in my state district but I am about to send a letter to my district senator, see if he can giver Sen. Stevens a clue by four.

I also told her I was appalled a woman would even think of this....

3. Would an abortion provider even endorse something like that?
Using routine abortions as birth control, I mean?

8. No, I think they counsel women who have had >1
Multiple abortions can lead to other health complications and doctors probably discuss this with the patient.

20. A friend had an abortion years ago....
(Very young, left in the lurch, etc.)

The physician spoke to the assembled women before he began the procedures. He said he never wanted to see any of them there again.

She never had reason to return.

16. common sense
Why would someone who was mentally competent use abortion as birth control? It's expensive, compared to the pill or other methods that are available either free or at a huge discount. It's painful to some degree, unlike B.C. And, it's more intrusive.

I teach ethics and everytime we do the abortion issue at least one student claims to know someone, or knows someone who knows someone, who's had 3 or 4 or 5, abortions. I have no doubt that there are people out there who have had more than one abortion over the course of their lifetime. But abortion as birth control, I believe, is spin.

If they want to publicize abortion records, let's start in D.C., Virginia, Maryland and Texas. Then work our way through the bible-belt. Do the blue states last after we've uncovered the hypocrites, e.g., Newt Gingrich.

5. Puts their life in danger how?
Is this yet another reference to the non-existent link between abortion and cancer?

10. Other factors
It's not just the physical aspects (removing the tissues from the uterus), but hormonal changes, etc. and the ability to sustain a full term birth should the person decide to keep the pregnancy after multiple abortions...

11. Giving birth multiple times results in more
dramatic, and potentially harmful, hormonal changes.

This is just a ploy to pretend their opposition is about concern and not about controlling women's reproduction.

18. Does the bill also require the report to call the mother...
"A dirty slut who will burn in hell for all eternity"?

I mean, hell, why not take it all the way?

Not that this bill has a chance in hell of passing anyway since democrats control both houses.

21. Well, the poison pill in this legislation is the part about the father.
Sending someone's private medical records to another person without their consent ain't gonna happen.
