2. The expression has been co-opted to be slightly more accurate.
Despite the misquoting, it's still attributed to Einstein, though.

"If World War III is fought with nuclear weapons, World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones."

3. Oh yes. That's going into my collection! Here's another Einstein quote
"The world is a dangerous place to live, not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don't do anything about it." - Albert Einstein

Put your quote and this one together and you have the direction the country is going right now.

I hope some other Einstein quotes are added in additional posts.

4. My favorite one is
I know of only two things that are infinite.

1. The universe
2. Man's capacity for stupidity

And I am not sure about the former.

5. Wonderful! Here's another
Laws alone cannot secure freedom of expression; in order that every man present his views without penalty there must be a spirit of tolerance in the entire population.

6. Can't resist. Here's another one
Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence.

7. Here's another that might surprise people:
"The economic anarchy of capitalist society as it exists today is, in my opinion, the real source of the evil. We see before us a huge community of producers the members of which are unceasingly striving to deprive each other of the fruits of their collective labor—not by force, but on the whole in faithful compliance with legally established rules."

8. And my contribution:
"This crippling of individuals I consider the worst evil of capitalism. Our whole educational system suffers from this evil. An exaggerated competitive attitude is inculcated into the student, who is trained to worship acquisitive success as a preparation for his future career.

I am convinced there is only one way to eliminate these grave evils, namely through the establishment of a socialist economy, accompanied by an educational system which would be oriented toward social goals."

Albert Einstein, Monthly Review, 1949

10. My Fave...
"The more knowledge I gain,
the more aware I become,
of how ignorant I am."

I've always imagined the halls of doors in the Beatles 'Yellow Submarine' movie to explain this quote. Each shut door is a question. But when you answer that question (open that door), behind it, is another hall with an infinite number of new shut doors (unanswered questions).

Of course, pot smoking helps when envisioning this metaphor, LOL!!!

12. Here's one for the fundies!
To be sure, the doctrine of a personal God interfering with natural events could never be refuted, in the real sense, by science, for this doctrine can always take refuge in those domains in which scientific knowledge has not yet been able to set foot. But I am persuaded that such behavior on the part of the representatives of religion would not only be unworthy but also fatal. For a doctrine which is able to maintain itself not in clear light, but only in the dark, will of necessity lose its effect on mankind, with incalculable harm to human progress.

13. OK, I'm hogging the stage here, but here's just one more
to think about before going to sleep. I wouldn't mind having some dreams about it.

A human being is a part of the whole, called by us, "Universe," a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest -- a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty. Nobody is able to achieve this completely, but the striving for such achievement is in itself a part of the liberation and a foundation for inner security.

14. A few of my favorites by Einstein:
"He who cherishes the values of culture cannot fail to be a pacifist."

"Never do anything against conscience even if the state demands it."

"As long as nations demand unrestricted sovereignty we shall undoubtedly be faced with still bigger wars. Fought with bigger and technologically more advanced weapons."

15. Actually he is wrong
Or sure. The battles that occur for some time after the third world war will be those of primitive peoples. But it is that primitive nature that will keep them from being able to engage in world war. It is technology and advances that enable us to wage war on a global scale let alone care about what is going on on the other side of the globe.
