Just saw "JFK" for the first time, and here's what I think
I think that the same group of people who were so desirous of getting into Vietnam in a bigger way (cited as the main reason for murdering JFK, who planned a pullout), are the SAME group that have long profited off war and human misery , which goes back to Prescott Bush and his profiting off the Nazis.

I other words: the BFEE.

It's really not much of a stretch.

1. Agreed. Some of the movie was a stretch but I don't think it's
an accident that following this Bar McClellan (Scott's daddy) wrote a book implicating LBJ in the death of JFK

Same with the news coming out today that Poppy was deep throat...look at who that elevated to the highest halls of gov't (Cheney, Rummy during Ford)

5. I saw that movie a while back
and really enjoyed it. I haven't seen the whole thing yet but hopefully I'll catch it again. I thought Kevin Costner did pretty well. I also think they could be the same people. Wouldn't surprise me. And I am convienced it was more then one shooter and Poppy Bush was involved somehow. He was in Dallas earlier that day, wasn't he? I wouldn't be surprised if Poppy isn't deep throat he was behind them. The reason they wanted to get rid of JFK was because of the Vietnam war and they wanted it and he knew it was wrong and the only way to get the Vietnam war was Nixon. Also, have you seen the movie "Nixon" staring Anthony Hopkins? It helps more with the story and putting pieces together. They're all involeved with PNAC I believe and that has been going on (plannings and working on what works etc) since JFK's days. That's probably when they started that (since JFK's term). Also if you haven't check out the movie "The Carlyle Group" on http://www.informationclearinghouse.info I believe this group has been around for a long time too. Maybe with another name but I definietly think so.

18. According to FBI records, Poppy was indeed in Dallas that day,
but when asked by a reporter where he was he said he doesn't remember. Yeah, right. The only person in the entire world, who's old enough, and he doesn't remember even tho he was in Dallas. Fat chance.

2. A lot of that movie was good- some of it probably gets it wrong...

I think Garrison raised plenty of interesting questions- Stone's movie tells a a great story- but he uses a lot of license...

You should google some web-sites that debunk & defend his accusations and make up your own mind...

Personally, I think Stone/Garrison got a lot of it right!

3. Agreed, Capn.
Read Farewell JFK by "James Hepburn." Available online for free and in paperback. Remember back in '68, there was a concerted and successful effort to dismiss a book about the assassination supposedly written by French Intelligence under a pseudonym? This is that book and it's undoubtedly what it claims to be. It doesn't name GHWB, but it shows exactly why JFK was murdered, and GHWB fits in as slick as you please.

6. The idea that Kennedy was going to get out of Vietnam is false.
That charge was made up by Oliver Stone.

When Stone was interviewed during the publicity for the movie he admitted that Kennedy did not want to get out of Vietnam. The interviewer showed him an interview with Kennedy after the one shown in the movie, where Kennedy talks about the importance of Vietnam and the domino theory, Stone responded that he knew about that interview but left it out of the movie.

8. False or not , I still see a common thread.

I know that Kennedy's Brother Robert would have has some serious influence over his ultimate direction. The fact that Bobby was killed too is not lost on history's long view.

before you do, though, tell us about NSAM 263

think it's a forgery?

OCTOBER 11,1963

NATIONAL SECURITY ACTION MEMORANDUM NO. 263

TO:

Secretary of State

Secretary of Defense

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff

SUBJECT: South Vietnam

At a meeting on October 5, 1963, the President considered the recommendations contained in the report of Secretary McNamara and General Taylor on their mission to South Vietnam.

The President approved the military recommendations contained in Section I B (1-3) of the report, but directed that no formal announcement be made of the implementation of plans to withdraw 1,000 U.S. military personnel by the end of 1963.

After discussion of the remaining recommendations of the report, the President approved the instruction to Ambassador Lodge which is set forth in State Department telegram No. 534 to Saigon.

or how about LBJ's NSAM 273, from 11/26, which negated the above

12. You're misinformed about JFK and Vietnam. Read Galbraith's "Exit Strategy"
"In 1963, JFK ordered a complete withdrawal from Vietnam"

...

"Before a large audience at the LBJ Library on May 1, 1995, McNamara restated his account of this meeting and stressed its importance. He confirmed that President Kennedy’s action had three elements: (1) complete withdrawal 'by December 31, 1965,' (2) the first 1,000 out by the end of 1963, and (3) a public announcement, to set these decisions 'in concrete,' which was made. McNamara also added the critical information that there exists a tape of this meeting, in the John F. Kennedy Library in Boston, to which he had access and on which his account is based."

14. I don't believe Oliver Stone made up this charge
Edited on Sat Feb-05-05 09:28 PM by amazona
I do think that part of his story is not factual. A movie has to tell a story, and the JFK mystery is not solved, so there are bound to be errors of fact in the movie even though it is a good story as a movie. It is the duty of a movie director to tell a good story, not necessarily a factual one. I think Stone was telling more about the emotional belief many people had about Kennedy -- that he was a great man who would have stopped the war if not killed -- and that he captured an emotional truth that many people felt at that time. It was just that people's emotions about Kennedy were not in accord with fact.

I just don't believe JFK would have pulled out of Vietnam nor do I think LBJ escalated the mess in Vietnam for profit. Clearly, LBJ did have a conscience and felt terrible about how the war went. He could have run for President again and likely won if all he cared about was staying in power and grabbing the cash with both hands. Just look at the Shrub...

I believe the mob and the CIA worked together to kill Kennedy, perhaps because of the "betrayal" at Bay of Pigs and because of Bobby Kennedy's prosecution of the mob.

My favorite fictional telling of this story is Libra by Don DeLillo. Wonderful book. But I still like the movie JFK if only because of the filming done in my area.

10. JFK has the people on his side, but the powers that be were against him.
JFK was truely independent and was fair to all. He didn't cower to Big Business, MIC, Unions, NRA, Foreign Interests, and so forth.

The government killed him because he was not a "team player".

The powers that be wanted the Vietnam War! JFK didn't!

and it also has a good forum.
JFK is one of my favorite movies. I went to the theater twice the year it came out and now own the DVD.
I really feel the day JFK died the inner powers took control and until this very day have grown stronger. The office of the President is little more than a puppet dangling from the strings of the puppet master.

16. I caught about the last hour of it this morning
(I have seen the whole movie before).

I managed to see the statements in the courtroom about (paraphrasing) "how many suicides, how many car accidents and plane crashes do there have to be before people wake up?".

Naturally, it made me think about Wellstone. Ruined my whole day and I went to today's DFL Central Committee meeting in a very foul mood.
