OMFG! Kurtz now using the phrase "Pundit Payola"
Heard him use it in a segment on Headline News, which means it will be repeated at least every hour and probably every half hour.

I've been using this phrase for a few days now with my first full thread using the phrase here:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.ph...

And a couple more threads after numberr three came out:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.ph...

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.ph...

A good scandal has to have a catchy name. I guess Mr. Kurtz reads DU.

HI HOWIE!

:hi:

2. The phrase "Media Whore" was apt, and now there's proof!
It's sad we were so right for so long about the Corporate Media.

3. I've suspected it for a long time, Walt
it's not just the corporate media holding their noses and touting the interests of republicans above the interests of America - these bastards are lining their pockets. Whoring is too good a word for them.

8. Do they even teach journalism ethics in college anymore?
One has to wonder. Unfortunately, good investigative journalists usually get fired from the MSM, then start their own blogs which are mocked and marginalized by the MSM.

Our goal for the next four years is to create and support a new media to totally discredit and destory the old media...

21. And we in the British "old media" used to consider the US superior ...
...How wrong we were.

The UK, proud home of the Liberal Media. That's the "unbribed, unbiased" media to you.

10. This is going to be a different scandal than any before.
Usually, the Republicans can stop the pain and punishment when they get caught, by outing people on the other side which are guilty of the same infraction. It happened with the Saving and Loan, it's happening with the stock debacle and Martha Stewart and I think they're trying to do the same with the pundits, but this time it's different. Our pundits are protected by the First Amendment for one good reason: Because our democracy depends on people of good conscience delivering up to date, objective news. If a person can't do that, they're no use to us.

So, this is what I would tell Howie and the Republicans: Hand us over the Democratic pundits that took money and we'll happily show them the door.

11. It wouldn't surprise me if there were Democrats on the take
During the Clinton administration. My guess is that the party in power has been bribing "pundits" for a while. On the other hand, the Repubs are in power now so they are the ones who are going to take the heat now that this practice has been outed.

Like you said, show us the liberals ones and we will spank them too.

They'll be protected by this administration.

5. Randi Rhodes used it on the air with the Dem on the FCC right after the
A Williams thing came out. She interviewed him about his attempts to start an investigation into the AWilliams thing.
Makes sense. Payola is a radio term for the pay for play.

7. Since Randi used it, I used it and now Howie is using it
it shows the phrase "clicks".

Funny, I always thought it would be something bigger where peple were getting killed over his illegal bullshit that would bring Bush down.

20. Awww Walt, you know the ignorant RW media need snappy phrases
to get their limpballs dumbed down viewers to catch on.

Death and the complexities surrounding it don't really make great news stories unless they can get the blood in a shot. Cheney and Rummy won't let them show the real war so we are stuck with local sensational deaths and catchy political punditry phrases.

14. Kurtz is a fine one to talk...
While I'm glad this scandal is getting mainstream coverage, Kurtz himself is feeding at the GOP trough, although it's his wife who gets the check - a fact that he never discloses.

Hey, if the money goes to you or if it goes to your wife, it's still household income that *you*, Kurtz, enjoy. Granted it isn't taxpayer money, but he's hardly the right spokesman for the payola scandal.

19. No shit my friend!
Don't you love how Kurtz is a media critic for both the Washington Post and CNN and how it's supposed to be his job to point out what is totally wrong with this whole payola scandal yet he himself has been severely compromised? Could explain why he completly and totally turns a blind eye to the outrages of Faux and their ilk and then will turn around and criticize someone like Keith Olbermann who actually does attempt to give us the truth! This man is a total tool. But it's got to be bad if even Kurtz is speaking up about it now.

18. "Payola"....
That word strikes FEAR into the hearts of old-time Disc Jockeys and station owners...

But that was "back then". Nowadays, it's probably No Big Thing that somebody is paying you in secret to shill for them.

Just as long as it's the White House that's doing the Payola.

They should put a super: "Compensated Endorsement" under these guys when they appear.
