The Black Commentator: Rice showed herself as bellicose as her master
Edited on Thu Jan-27-05 12:37 PM by CatWoman
George Bush and his handmaiden, Condoleezza Rice, speak a strange language that is understood only by the denizens of the American bubble.

It is a language of aggression, pure and simple – an American Manifest Destiny that threatens the sovereignty of every other nation on the planet, but pretends to be a liberating force. Bush also delivered an implicit threat to those Americans who resist involvement in his savage crusade: “We are led, by events and common sense, to one conclusion: The survival of liberty in our land increasingly depends on the success of liberty in other lands,” said Bush in his inaugural address.

-snip-

In her confirmation hearings, Condoleezza Rice showed herself to be as bellicose as her master. In addition to Syria and Iran, writes Patrick Sale, of the Lebanon-based Daily Star, Rice placed Muslims in general in the cross-hairs. “America and the free world," she declared, "are once again engaged in a long-term struggle against an ideology of hatred and tyranny and terror and hopelessness. And we must confront these challenges ..."

-snip-

The entire planet is rejecting blatant American lies and aggression, and actively conspiring to undermine United States military, economic and political domination. This aggression now has a new face – that of a Black woman. We are saddened at the historical irony, but so be it. Evil comes in all colors.

2. actually, it means that those people who are disparaging
democrats for speaking out against Rice need to do some research and/or shut the fuck up.

6. I heard one of them on c-span on Tuesday.
He made the old "Byrd is a KKK man how can he denigrate a black woman like condi who has"... blah blah blah...it was sickening.

I saw some hope in this line...
"The entire planet is rejecting blatant American lies and aggression, and actively conspiring to undermine United States military, economic and political domination."

I look for hope everywhere these days.
:(

3. If so, I hope they do a better job than we've done in Iraq. I'd like
to survive to enjoy my liberty.

4. Condasleazy is an abomination. Her apologists are creating a mini-Bush.
Fox's (liberal)Juan Williams has jumped solidly on her bandwagon and so has Andrew Young.

15. I agree it is sickening but on the bright side it is the most votes
against an appointee for SOS in almost two hundred years.

10. http://www.palmbeachpost.com/news/content/shared/news/nation/stories/RICE0
Andrew Young, the former Atlanta mayor, Georgia congressman and United Nations ambassador in the Carter administration, stood with Senate Republican Leader Bill Frist of Tennessee to demand a swift conclusion to the debate that would make Rice the first African American woman to serve as the nation's chief diplomat.

"Condoleezza Rice not only deserves the support but the country needs a strong, wise secretary of state with a bipartisan mandate to help establish democracy not only in Iraq but around the world," Young said.

He was joined by C. Delores Tucker, founder of the National Congress of Black Women, who accused the Democrats of "doing this Monday-morning quarterback" of reviewing Rice's role in the president's decision to invade Iraq.

11. Flame away, but this is one aspect of this that is disheartening
to me. This article also mentions the financial drain and that other countries are aligning themselves so as not to be as heavily impacted by our devaluing currency. There is less money to care for our own, less money available for scholarships, Pell grants, etc.

My son has been alarmed by the numbers of recruiters coming into his school during the past 6+ months. He attends a majority black school that qualifies to be a Title 1 school. Earlier this week there were 5 recruiters in his school with all types of displays, promising money for college and big signing bonuses. He was upset because he said that it was pretty obvious that the recruiters weren't even talking to the white kids until they weren't getting a lot of takers. The black women that I know from that school were involved in Mothers Opposing Bush and got stickers and buttons from me. They knew kids who had been injured in Iraq and one kid who had been there 3 times. They didn't like anyone in the Bush** administration who was in any way responsible for this lied into war.

I've talked to a few people the past couple of weeks and in the more affluent schools the recruiters aren't hitting the schools as hard, if at all.

I wonder if Dr. Rice and Mr. Young are so out of touch with reality that they aren't seeing who is being 'preyed upon', if you will allow.

12. I just finished talking to a co-worker
and asked about her son. He is a freshman in college, yet he gets regular calls from recruiters.

She thinks that they are trying to use tuition as bait to lure him in, as his name is on the student loan, but she and her husband pay for it.

She said he is really getting sick of them calling. I told her to tell him to say that he is HIV infected

13. Haha - HIV infected.
It bugs me as well as a high school teacher friend that it's just so obvious that the targets are kids who have little to no hope of going to college and there aren't really that many decent jobs available here, and view this as their only option for getting out of here and some hope for improving their lives. They're just so damned young.

14. Hasn't the U.S. already...
had an Afro-American Secretary of State and a female one? Now there is a female Afro-American S of S. Was there a huge uproar and cries of "racism" when Colin Powell was critized? This was so predictable: Rethugs pull out the race card whenever it suits their agenda.Do Rethugs have any ethics, scrupples or moral compass? Not in my view.
