Asbestos reform?
Edited on Tue Jan-18-05 07:33 AM by tinanator
"That's one of the reasons why I've started talking about legal reform early. One way to make sure America is the best place in the world to do business and the best place in the world to attract capital, therefore, is to reform our legal system.

I'm taking on three issues: asbestos reform, class action and medical liability reform. Today I'm going to be talking about education."

Do we really need to be tested this hard? God? Why us?

1. It's hard to know what he means by this
He wants to make it easier for manufacturers to use asbestos? Wants to make people who live in an abestoes building to be unable to sue? He wants a nice abestos-coloda?

I don't know.

I'm not sure he does, either.

4. Ooops...He Forgot Insurance Company Reform
No law states an insurance company has to make a profit and that when they're on the wrong side of a liability case they get to pass their losses off on consumers...both public and doctors that raise medical costs even higher.

While it's time to settle the Asbestos class actions (which should have been)...that's a seperate issue from the other two and without a discussion of the insurance companies culpability in putting their profits ahead all else then it's not a complete or genunine examination of this issue.

5. Well, the idea behind asbestos reform is
that the companies that used asbestos didn’t know at the time they used them of the danger of asbestos. I work for an attorney who does asbestos litigation, and I can tell you that in the cases of the few large companies that we are suing, they knew long before they did anything about it.

Bush should leave these alone – I mean, they problem will soon take care of itself. Many of those exposed from years of exposure are dying now while their cases languish. :(

when polluters and carcinogenic producers are let off the hook, this world will swirl down the whirlpool faster than you can drop dead.
