These for the most part are preloaded Linux boxes.... great prices... and no, I don't have anything to do with this site.. I just found it because of the thread that was started regarding the spying capabilities of MS utilities, browsers and so forth.

1. and join a LUG
you don't need to be a geek to go along and you don't need experience of Linux.

This is probably a good bet for those used to Windblows; it has a Windozy GUI.

3. Well, I'll tell you... I haven't had too much success, but there is a
Linux utility called "Wine" that is supposed to do just fine running programs such as office on Linux. Linux comes with Open Office, which has a spreadsheet, I am not familiar with how it opens or if it opens MS Office documents.... if I were you I would get a copy and play with it... it's educational, fun, and doesn't cost alot.

Obviously Codeweavers are selling something here... but I'll bet it's good, and I'll bet works very very well. I would rather this than be a slave to MS snooping.

Run popular office productivity software, such as Microsoft Office, Photoshop, and Lotus Notes, in Linux, without any Microsoft OS license costs. In addition, the Professional version also includes enhanced features for enterprise deployability, as well as the ability to run in shared multi-user mode, both of which make it more useful in a corporate setting. Professional comes with 1 year of Level 2 support.

4. Depends on what you do..
Linux will not run programs like turbo tax or half life. It will run some programs on emulators.

If you just do email and office stuff Linux is nice.

OSX is cleaner and easier to support, but costs more. It will run more types of applications.

I use all of them in the course of business. They all do different stuff well.
