The Daily Show showed a clip of Bush saying that black males die sooner than other males, so Social Security isn't fair (didn't use that word) for all people, and "that's gotta change".

See? He doesn't need to pay Armstrong Williams! He can reach out to the black folk all by his unitin' self!

If A/A men die sooner than everyone else, that's an actuarial fact. A/A men are at MUCH greater risk than pudgy middle-aged white guys like me-- largely because of social inequalities.

It was really amazing watching * tell a young AA man that he was going to die sooner, so new SS rules would benefit him instead of discriminate against him, as they supposedly currently do.

(Let's just ignore the fact if guy dies sooner, the SS will benefit his FAMILY for a longer period. That's the POINT of SS!!! But I digress)

Both the man and * flinched slightly as * explained the merits of his new system. Then the man smiled and gestured as if to say, "See, that's another reason I like your program." Earlier in the show, John Stewart used this as one of his jokes--"See, now black people can enjoy their golden YEAR."

6. Bush may have been trying to imply that

because black men have shorter average lifespans than white men, they won't collect Soc. Securtiy for as amny years on avg., and thereofore we need to radically change it.

Bush DIDN'T say that he's going to cut benefits by 40 percent, and that will hurt blacks even more on average since they have less wealth on average.

If Soc. Security is racist now, Bush's plan is even more racist.

(I think it was ABC.) It was about how not everyone in Bush's Texas is happy with Smirky. They showed a white family, whose oldest son is in Iraq; they "love" the president but want the war to be over. Then they showed a older black man - a mailman and mayor of his town - who doesn't think much of Smirky, except, incredibly, he seems to think that our most pressing problem is SS "reform." One that is easy to refute and should be shouted from the rooftops: SS is not just about retirement benefits

It's benefits to surviving families. You know, the widows and orphans. In fact, such programs were in place even BEFORE SS, administered by the each state. If you suffer an untimely death, SS benefits will go to your widows/widower and orphans! Your family actually receives more benefits over time, not less.
