Cosgrove tables VA HB 1677...for now
Citing 'confusing language' John Cosgrove of VA has decided to table the bill that would criminalize women who have miscarriages for not reporting them to police within 12 hours.

He also claims to have been 'horribly abused' by us awful internet users over this. Yeah, right. Another hope for taking away women's autonomy has been dashed by information.

1. Internet users abused Cosgrove?
Damn. I didn't get in on that action.

Please tell me how I can abuse Cosgrove?

I know, it's a little late, but I feel left-out.

2. It's never too late to abuse Cosgrove!
You know, it may be wrong, but it just fills me with joy to think that internet users actually annoyed him. Bwwahaha! There in lies one of our many powers! :)

3. Read about it here

Poor Cosgrove, he just can't understand how more people than live in VA could all read the bill the way they did and not as he intended it.

Johnny, try a continuity course between what you want and the law as already written.

4. Gotta love that comment about blogs
"And it can be a way of spreading misinformation or distorted information quickly. Blogs, while they are fascinating, are not journalism.

Because journalists never spread misinformation or distorted information.

5. I sent a letter that DUer's help me write last week.
I'm sure the scorn of 60,000 Dems might have a little to do with it.

I am ashamed to have this fuckwad as my representative in Chesapeake.

6. This article says he only received 500 emails
Edited on Tue Jan-11-05 01:59 PM by IanDB1
I send out almost that many emails every day myself.

Not all of them to Cosgrave, of course.

This raises two questions for me:

1) The best we can do is 500 emails?

2) It only takes 500 emails for Cosgrave to declare himself "abused"?

I know people who get 200 spam emails every day and they just shrug it off.

Cosgrave gets 500 emails and he curls up into a ball and hides?

If that's all it takes, we need a better system of sending at least 500 emails to people on the issues that matter.

I have an idea.

If anyone is really good with things like PERL and other computer-related acronyms, please send me a private message.

I am grinning ear to ear with what I think is a truly brilliant plan.
