Coming to state near you...next stop soc security. Bye Bye! Bush admin hopes you die.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Gov. Phil Bredesen announced Monday that he will drop 323,000 adults from the state's expanded Medicaid program to save about $1.7 billion a year, but will preserve health coverage for children.

4. No Money, No Medical Coverage.
Tennessee doesn't want to pay taxes and we have a low budget for the things that people say they want. That's one of the reasons why TennCare is a larger part of the budget than the equivalent is in most states.

It's because we have such a small budget!

I think people here are just going to have to face a lot of unpleasant facts. No money, no services! That's how it is, except in *'s world.

9. Thank you Sharon for trying to explain it
And, when most of the state doesn't make much money, it's very difficult to raise taxes to pay for these services.

11. the republicans won't be sending any help any time soon...
You would have a better chance of getting money from the tight a$$ death cult republicans for a Tennessee tsunami than being elderly with a medical condition in the US.

10. Again, Bredesen is a Democrat
He has no money.

The stupid Bushbots in the state don't want an income tax and his hands are tied.

I'm hoping my mother will be able to remain on it since she cannot work, but she may have to get a divorce from my step Dad (in name only) to qualify. It sucks, but there are ways around it.

13. He has no money.
duh, we didn't figure that out. Thanks for such a careful analysis. Maybe you can write a letter to Bush and explain what having no money for the elderly means so that he can also be well educated like the rest of us.

18. I don't think you understand and you're sniping makes me
less inclined to explain it to you.

Do you live in Tennessee? Doubtful, or you wouldn't find this funny.

And, since you don't, you don't understand the make up of our General Assembly. Your initial post was "Bye Bye Tenns," like all of us here are a bunch of red-voting ingrates. That's not true. I think you need to take a look at the "shades of purple" map and understand what the hell is going on here instead of making adding insult to injury.

14. WHAT are they "saving" the dollars FOR????
Save 1.7 Bln a year? If the money isn't spent on the needy, what is the savings FOR EXACTLY??? What the hell is the "shortfall" that the states HAVE TO CUT social programs????

They are starting to kick ass in calif too....if it's any consolation.

We were "getting by".........now we will be hanging onto threads. Cuts in rent subsidies, Social Security, healthcare, in home care services; all right here in sunny BLUE california.

These cuts will hurt people like us like a son of a bitch! This is not funny this is not a game. This is real and it's deadly. These kinds of moves will make people very very vengeful and unpleasant. Beware America!

First they plunder the weakest, then they will go after the rest of you.

To the extent that it's possible, it's the "underground economy" for us from here on out.

While we will be hurt desparatly we are not the only ones, obviously. I am so unsettled over these events; I'm hoping that countless dumbass republicans get it in the shorts like we are..I hope this wakes them up and makes them turn on their furher with a passion. :nuke:

19. Trying to balance the budget
By law, Tennessee (as most states) has to balance its budget. Without an income tax, with the poor Shrub economy nibbling at our tourism dollars and with no one in their right mind wanting to raise the already whopping 8 percent (9.5 in most cities) sales tax (including on food), there's no way else to balance the budget.

UNLESS, we take the gasoline sales tax away from TDOT and put it in the general fund, where it belongs. But, you won't get the politicians to do that: to many kick-backs from road projects. And, if you've driven through Tennessee within the last 10 years, you know they're ALWAYS working on the roads.

sales tax will do to an economy and population of people. I love Tennesseans and their warmhearted attitudes toward people, I did research at St. Jude Children's Hospital for a summer in Memphis and I had never been treated nicer by strangers.

It really is too bad that they don't switch to an income tax, summer of 2002 the state government went broke and shut down completely that time as well b/c of that ridiculously high and inequitable, and ineffective state sales tax.

Ya see, ya got to get real creepy thinking, and VIOLA! You come up with Republican ideas like these, so the child sees no doctor. Double savings.

26. OK OSB...
Let's sat you are the Governor of Tennessee. Massive fraud in the TennCare system is draining all your valuable resources. (People who can afford their own insurance are on the system, out-of-staters are getting illegal benefits, etc.) The General Assembly won't agree to an income tax, your sales tax rate with county options is 9 and three quarters percent in many areas. Don't just bitch... fix it!
