They get a lot of their ship board workers from over there.
December 30, 2004
Dear Friends,
We have received hundreds of calls, emails and inquiries following the tragic earthquake and tsunami that
hit Indonesia, India and other countries in Asia on December 26, 2004. Our thoughts and prayers go out to
the victims and their families.
Immediately following the disaster,
Holland America Line made a corporate donation to the Indonesian
Red Cross. In addition, our office in Indonesia has established an emergency response center for our crew
to get messages and news from loved ones in the affected areas.
While even one loss of life or a home is heartbreaking, we are fortunate that most all of our thousands of
Indonesian employees and dozens of Indian employees do not live in the affected areas of their countries.
Many people within the Holland America Line community have asked what they can do personally to help
the victims. Holland America Line will be sending contributions from guests and employees to the
Indonesian Red Cross. Others wishing to make donations are referred to the American Red Cross
www.redcross.org or the International Committee of the Red Cross
www.icrc.org I am very proud of our employees, guests and friends for reaching out to offer support in response to
this disaster.
Sincerely,
Stein Kruse
President and Chief Executive Officer
