The Lithuanian foreign minister has admitted he was once a member of the Soviet KGB.
While the minister has overseen Lithuania's accession to Nato and the EU, many are now angered he concealed his past from the public.
Lithuanians had come to associate Antanas Valionis with their country's mission to rejoin the West.
In his four years as foreign minister, the diminutive yet straight-talking Valionis helped steer Lithuania into Europe's most elite institutions.
