Should I send this letter to the WH?
Dear Sir:

In response to a letter I wrote you in March in which I begged you not to go to war against Iraq, you wrote back saying “In Iraq, we sought to remove a threat to our security”. I must ask, what threat? In your State of the Union address on January 28, you claimed, among other things, that the International Atomic Energy Agency said that Saddam Hussein had an advanced nuclear weapons development program. The IAEA said no such thing. You also said that he was attempting to purchase uranium from Africa, and high strength aluminum tubes suitable for nuclear weapons production. Both of those statements were known to be false before you said them.

In other words, you lied, sir, and your lies have led to the deaths of Americans – 287 so far, 149 since you declared “Mission Accomplished” on May 1, 2003. It is clear that your ignorance and recklessness make you entirely unsuitable for the office of the President of the United States.

Please resign.

Sincerely,

1. Personally I wouldn't
You want to get on the "list?"

3. Go for it!
Truthfully, if there is a list, especially if it is made up of people writing letters like this, then we're all likely on that list. How many of us have written admonishing letters to the White House in the past 3 years? I know I have. How many of us have signed online petitions against the Bush administration policies? I have. If they were this petty, then I would imagine that all the members of an online website named 'Democratic Underground' would also be on this list.

4. How to send that letter
Make a CC'list including several newspaper editors, several congress people, colin powell, and anyone else you can think of that is relevant.

Then registered mail the letter and the cc'list to every one of them.

Everyone will know that the others recieved it, as registered mail always gets through... its more expensive... but that is the price of effective letter writing activism.

5. That should work
Now if only the newspaper editors would run it, it would be perfect.

6. it DOES work
I've done it before and it is devastating when you pick the CC'list right... as the receiver of the correspondence is immediately put on the defensive. If you are writing to have an impact, it is a really great way.

If i were sending such a letter, i'd put on the cc'list the prime mininsters of the G7 countries plus russia, india and china. Foreign press, le monde, guardian. All the addresses are on the web.

7. I wouldn't either
As Smirk himself has said, "Who cares what you think?" Better to devote your energy to working for the Dem candidate of your choice to kick Smirk out of our House.

8. I would also mention
the thousands of deaths in Iraq, the Brit soldiers, etc. He is responsible for those too.

10. I like the cc idea.
Maybe I should cc it to my Democratic Congressman (Dennis Moore). My two Senators are Repubs, so no point in sending to them.

Thanks for the feedback.

11. Send it and feel better..
Of course for more immediate self gratification--calling the White House comment line and "unloading" on one of their operators is a lot of fun too.

12. If you do plan on sending it to "Le Monde" like one reader suggested ...
Here's a nice translation:

And I don't know how to find the letters like c cedilla or the circumflex, so encore, merci.

Actually, what I should do is write a slightly different version to the newspaper, Senators, etc. I may as well wait and see what W says tonight, in case he'd say something that would alter what I might want to say.

13. It's very well written,
concise and short, but says what needs to be said. Please do send it with CC to everyone you can think of. Don't worry about being on the list. Everyone who checks out a library book or uses an ATM is on it, not to mention posting at DU.
