Janeane and Sam need their own shows
Tired of listening to them fight. They are becoming dysfunctional.

Sam would be a damn good host of his own show, so why not let Janeane solo on Majority Report and give Sam a weekend show so we don't have to listen to so many damn reruns.

1. I quite agree.
But then I mainly listen to Majority Report, some Franken, Randi, and Mike Malloy.

Have liked the show when I have had a moment to listen to it. I was listening one night when she was complaining Sam didn't show her respect or something to that effect.

Can you explain what is up? And, I agree that we need to separate them. I would gladly listen to them separately.

14. "we need to separate them" pff
aren't "we" being a bit presumptious here?

17. 'Presumptious' is my middle name.
My husband came up with the name 'Ma'at.' She's the Egyptian Goddess of Justice, and she reportedly stands there and directs people to where they are going in the afterlife. The heighth of presumption.

Anyway, I love listening to them both. I don't feel badly when someone has to gently separate me from someone.

Sometimes relationships become healthier when there's a little separation.

Happy New Year 2005!

2. First of all...
Their arguements are what is so good about the show. For some reason, people have begun to think that having arguements is somehow dysfunctional...it's not...it's healthy. We need to have arguements so we can keep our viewpoints in check. Janeane and Sam, for this reason, make a great team.

Also, they have only recently been playing a lot of reruns because of the holiday season. Other than that recent situation, there have been few cases in which there have been reruns.

Liberals need to come together and argue so that we can hone in on our platform. We will never come to consensus unless we hear differing viewpoints.

3. The reruns
are every weekend.

I was prompted to bring this up by tonight's show. Janeane was asking one of their guests for his opinion on whether she was being dismissive of Sam for something or other.

And I just thought, "I really don't want to listen to 10 minutes of this."

5. Yep, totally agree.
And they're so damn SHRILL about it, well, mostly Janeane. "No, no, no, SAM. You're not listening to me! SAM!" jeez, if I want to hear people argue all the time I can just listen to my neighbors fight. I do enjoy a DEBATE, but that's different from an ARGUMENT. Yip yip yip yip ... it's like listening to my parents' chihuahuas.

6. Perhaps some prefer bland happy talk, but they seem like good
co-hosts to me. If you miss the humor and see vitriol instead of respect and good-hearted banter, then you should attend to something else. (I bet you never lived in NYC - it is a fast paced city and not for everyone.)

7. Nope. Never lived in NYC
But I did attend grad school in Chicago. Pretty fast-paced there.

But what does that have to do with anything?

10. Every region has a certain "style" of discourse
In some parts of this country even the appearance of an "argument" is taboo and socially inappropriate. In other regions (geographical and cultural) being blunt and even confrontational is an essential part of the "getting to know you" process and a sign of mutual regard - it is a form of candor and evidence of shared interests, not antagonism. I was reminded of this a few years ago when I called to place an order at B&H Photo and the first words were "Yeah! Whaddya want?" Made me nostalgic. You see this "style" in other subcultures as well. I enjoy the exchanges on MM since they are both very quick-witted and insightful, and don't see this kind of back-and-forth as hostile.

8. Neither of them are competent to be

Talk Show Hosts, either as a team or individually.

They do not have fluency, their method of interviewing is sadly not mature or fluent, they stutter, they cannot complete sentences or ideas as their thought processes move outside of the topic...

Listen to Thom, Mike (Malloy or Webb), Guy, Nate, Ray, Bernie, Laura, Peter Werbe. You will see the huge difference between them and Al Franken, Majority Report, Unfiltered, The Young Turks, - who are NOT Talk Show hosts. The way they laugh at each others jokes sounds shallow, they way they constantly cackle is irritating, they are many times one track,...

Randi is a class act of her own which falls between these two classes. However, she is too egoistic. How many guests have you heard of late on Randi's Show (after the election)? She believes that SHE is the only Liberal Talk Show host in the US, although of late she has been giving credit to Thom who hosted her show a few times over the Happy Holidays break!!

There have been a few days that I listened to 7 straight hours LIVE of Thom, and not a single moment was a repeat or boring. His guests are each worth their weight in gold, even if they are from the other side. And many a time to get all of the history that Thom gives out makes it necessary to listen to the archived shows (thanks to Benburch at whiterosesociety.org). That is class...

None of the comedy crew feature in MY Top Ten Liberal Talk Show Hosts.

11. Neither of them are great radio people
Edited on Wed Jan-05-05 01:42 AM by Phoebe_in_Sydney
I agree with most of their opinions, and I quite like both of them but it's not a very compelling program to listen to. Too much bickering, they both struggle at times to articulate their points of view and get lost going off on tangents.

Usually I listen to Randi and then gradually lose interest and drift away when they come on.

You can tell Randi is the real radio professional. Yes, she does get snippy with guests and callers sometimes, and she talks herself up quite a lot, but she's edgey, articulate, funny and knows how to steer her way through a talk break without losing her place, or her pace.

I was enjoying Mike Malloy -- another well-practised radio pro -- until he started making ridiculous criticisms of Wes Clark. That's a deal breaker for me.

(edit: changing enjoyed to enjoying)

12. "The Majority Report" is a good show as it is.
It's good that they disagreee.

Makes it more interesting.

as good as when he's with Janeane G.

15. I thought the fighting was part of their schtick.
I think the bloggers tend to find it hilarious. And Sam does screw up a lot of colloquial phrases, which crack me up. Sometimes I wonder if those are prewritten, because I've never heard Sam in any other venue.
