Hastert cautious on tsunami aid, "We need to look at the issue first."
Edited on Mon Jan-03-05 10:26 PM by Bluebear
"We need to look at the issue before we throw a lot of aid in there," House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., said in a brief interview. "I'm not opposed to putting more money into aid, but I think we need to find what the problems are."

OK, Mr. Speaker, LOOK:

3. GOP wants to attach strings
1. Only "Christians" can get aid.

2. Must buy from US, must buy from US corporations.

4. Must use Haliburton

5. Slave labor agreements for all US corporations.

6. strings -- but full amount promised will never be handed over -- or the people won't see a penny.

7. Gotta turn over all the "terrist" to the bushista gang -- or anyone who has a name similar to someone who might be a terrorist.

8. Gotta permit US military bases where ever the military wants to put a military base.

9. Gotta promise to sell their soul to the devil.

4. One idiot said "long-term reconstruction" (Halliburton) as important
as immediate aid. I forget who, maybe Frist. They're setting the groundwork for Big Daddy to come in and rebuild.

13. Who knows?
I've seen really crappy Brown & Root supplied shelters in areas hit by Hurricanes or other natural disaster --

These buildings are crap -- flat roofs in areas with torrential rains. In the tropics these crap structures need air conditioning. The cost of these crap structures is outrageous -- just bring in the lumber and the local people could construct superior buildings at a fraction of the cost.

Brown & Root is part of Hailburton (or was).

So I expect that the strings will be there -- probably some will be "secret".

The missing #3 stands for the secret strings that the bushitas will demand with a knife to the back of the leaders of the affected countries.

17. I think this disaster points out how much we have changed as a culture
Edited on Tue Jan-04-05 08:35 AM by AngryOldDem
We have had it so relatively good here for so long, have been under the influence of government and corporate leaders who have made selfishness and greed virtues for so long, that we can now easily turn our backs on those who need our help -- or give that help only grudgingly. We got ours, so screw the rest of the world -- especially those who don't look like us, think like us, or act like us.

Just one more piece of evidence of the decline in this society, in my opinion, and I too find it shameful.

The fact that Hastert had the gall to make such a statement proves my point.

18. TOTALLY AGREE.
I mean, whatever happened to the concepts of sacrifice, and looking out for others before yourself?

Nowdays it's just gotta have, gotta have, gotta have, gimme, gimme, gimme. Fuck the little guy, if he doesn't get out of the way, run his ass over.

This is what we've become. And I want no part of it.

19. You know, a warning isn't sufficient in this case!!!!
I'm using the "view all" option. I'm scrolling down with my mouse. I barely get a chance to see the title of your post before the big-assed picture of horror gets thrown in my face.

The last person that posted this pic posted a link that one had to cut and paste into one's browser in order to see the picture. Would you please consider doing that?

23. I disagree
The reality of the tragedy really sucks. Certainly you're not suggesting that I'm ignoring the reality of it. I doubt that anyone here is.

But some people have been through serious trauma. They should be able to choose whether or not to view horrible pictures such as that.

The convention here has been to provide a warning so that people can choose whether or not to open the post. Unfortunately, that picture is so large that scrolling past it without seeing it is impossible. I don't think I was out of line in asking her to change the picture to a link.

Perhaps it is my screen size, but I was unable to see the warning before the picture was in the middle of my screen.

Thank you for your suggestion to pay attention. It was most kind. /sarcasm off

Please check out the below link, but also be warned. It is the same pic but there are 200 posts regarding.

WARNING IT IS THE SAME PIC, IT HAS 200 POSTS AND NO ONE HAS BEEN SO OFFENDED AS YOU. MOST OF US JUST FEEL LOTS OF PAIN.

AND on that note, I apologize, I'm sorry and there is absolutely no sarcasm. Maybe, just maybe, if more people were able to see this depth of tragedy they would be more moved to do something, and make it happen quicker.

28. "If they ain't movin, we can't drop bombs on them. NO SOUP FOR YOU!"
IMHO, if we weren't so tide up in iraq or afghanistan and I was running the show with the way the economy is now, I would probably do the following:

call up a few divisions of Army Corps. of Engineers to help with cleanup and reconstruction efforts. Reason being, with most places completely gone, not only do opportunities present themselves that wouldn't normally be there are there now. Thailand is sort of primitive in some of these areas correct? well why not build better roads, lay some cable and some powerlines, water and sewer systems and give these people a better life. hell, with all the steel and other materials flowing from the US, it would provide jobs her at home along with high potential profit and buisness opportunities in the reconstruction. I say spend 167 billion on that instead of killing people and having people get killed.

and to any st00pid fauke that says "we need to take a look at the situation" has got to have thier head in thier ass.

One quick question, has anyone heard of any US major retailers pouring in help for those people over there or are they just too brown for them?
