7. I've read 15 meters; that would be about 50 feet.

10. From all the diver and fisherman eyewitness stories...
It wasn;t so much a tidal wave as it was a huge tide shift. First it sucked way out to sea, and then it came in like an accelarated high tide. It came up twice too.

12. thats why they are still around to tell their story...
other places were hit with much worse and those eyewitnesses, tragically, won't ever be able to tell their story directly.

peace

14. i think noone is saying it was a "tidal wave", but rather a tsunami
what the eyewitnesses describe is classic bahaviour of a tsunami.

Tidal Wave
...the crest of a tide as it moves around the earth...

Tsunami
...series of catastrophic ocean waves caused by earthquakes...

4. Looks to me it's after the leading waves hit.

The swirls would seem to indicate the rip effect of backflow from the land combined with the continued onflow of the swell. At least that's how I'd interpret what I'm seeing.

5. That makes sense.

Clearly the land has already been flooded.

There's an earlier satelite photo of the same spot circulating, and the difference is striking.

9. Funny how they can find insurgents in houses...
But they can't find a tsunami with top of the line weather satellites and a 3-4 hour headstart...How long does it take to email, telephone, broadcast??
