Remember John Rocker?
The then-Atlanta Braves relief pitcher who was roundly ostracized for his comments to Sports Illustrated (I believe in 2000) stating that the thing he disliked the most about NYC was "all the foreigners," and spewing anti-homosexual opinions.

Again, he was widely rebuked for these comments, and his career promptly went down the tubes.

That was only a few years ago. Now I can't help thinking that John Rocker would have won public office had he run in any of the red states this year. Please convince me that John Rocker is not now the face of American politics.

1. I don't know about that but
you might like to know that John Rocker is currently pitching in the Venezualan winter league trying to fight his way back - it's not working, he's getting hammered every time he goes out (and he's in Venezuela which must be fun for him) lol

7. LOL
Just desserts for that ignorant piece of shit. I wonder how he feels about 'feriners' now that he is one.

2. found his quotes
From the Sports Illustrated article: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/features/cover/news/1999/12/22/rocker/

"On ever playing for a New York team: "I would retire first. It's the most hectic, nerve-racking city. Imagine having to take the 7 train to the ballpark, looking like you're Beirut next to some kid with purple hair next to some queer with AIDS right next to some dude who just got out of jail for the fourth time right next to some 20-year-old mom with four kids. It's depressing."

On New York City itself: "The biggest thing I don't like about New York are the foreigners. I'm not a very big fan of foreigners. You can walk an entire block in Times Square and not hear anybody speaking English. Asians and Koreans and Vietnamese and Indians and Russians and Spanish people and everything up there. How the hell did they get in this country?" "

3. He went to Cleveland after Atlanta
and pretty much kept his mouth shut there, but he blew a lot of leads, and didn't last a season.

I saw him on the news in Sept., working with a chain saw, helping people recovering from Charlie in Florida.

4. I thought you were going to tell us
that you had seen him working in a convenience store, or emptying bedpans somewhere.

6. Good point...
I remember him well (the Braves are my favorite team).

He would have won public office in a red state (like Georgia) without a doubt. Poor guy, he missed his calling. Anyway, as I remember, he tried to spin it like any good wingnut with the "my parents taught me better, I don't know what I was thinking, I'm a good Christian" spiel (sp?).
