2 "U.S.Marine" predators troll for boys in WalMart today...the story...
I was in a local WalMart today, saw two young guys in US Marine uniforms walking together. They were not what you call really roughneck looking, talked very low key. So I followed them discreetly. They mostly hung around near the electronics/music department, and would walk up to young guys and try to talk to them.

They walked up to a boy who was very obviously NOT 18 years old yet. They kinda cornered him and while he stood there with music cds in his hands, they both kept talking at him. I walked and stood next to them to listen. The boy was trying to put them off. Then the tallest marine took out a notebook and pen, handed it towards the boy, and told the boy to write his name and address so the Marines could send him information (of some sort).

At that point I spoke up and told the boy he did not have to give the Marines any information. The boy looked very relieved and immediately put his cds down and left the music department.

I said the marines ought to stay away from underage children and if they wanted to recruit, why not set up a table outside? they laughed.

The truth is that they work in a pair for intimidation, and try to pressure hapless children.

If you are I walked into WalMart and told children to give us their names and addresses we would be arrested and hauled away!!

I complained to the floor manager, who called security (or called somebody). she told me those two marines had been talked to previously and were told to knock it off.

What fine high Moral Values those two guys have. Semper Fi indeed.

3. Wow. Normally I'd be upset you were in a Wal-Mart.
In this case, I'm very glad you were there!

6. you'd think all those bush-voting white guys would be lining up
to fight for our freedom in iraq, there'd be a line around the block at the recruiting centers....

9. Yeah right
They'd be the last ones in line. No, they want to see the minority groups go in first. The maladministration will wait a little while longer until we're as poor as a third world nation (which isn't far off), forcing folks from the poorest parts of the country to join the service, promising wonderful benefits and other perks. Once they're in the service, they'll do a draft and a lottery, making sure that rich white kids will be chosen last in the lottery.

8. My son is a Marine,
but I would caution any parent about recruiters. Our son was 19 when he decided to enlist in the Marines. He had attended college very half-heartedly. We asked him to wait 4 months and then, if he still wanted to enlist, he had our support. We wanted to make sure he wasn't just joining because a couple of friends had joined or because he hated college. He's now been in two years and is happy with his decision. He's been to Iraq and is going back this January. He voted for Kerry.
That said, beware the recruiters. Make sure, as a parent, you know what your son/daughter is being told. A co-worker's son was recruited by the Marines, is at boot camp now, and is miserable. He was not physically fit enough to go...he's struggling...and now his attitude is negative. His recruiter rushed him and should have known he wouldn't be up to the physical training. My son's recruiter was very honest and reputable. Just make sure you're consulted and part of the decision. Young people can be very vulnerable and not aware of all the demands of a long-term commitment.

He told them George isn't the type of Bush he wanted to die for. This is what my kid said, I wonder if he's the one who said it?
