Is Rove baiting the trap?
Edited on Fri Jul-11-03 10:37 PM by Must_B_Free
The reason "lying" is being played is because they want you to forget about missing the WMDs. This way they can air some dirty laundry in the summer when noone important is watching, and seed a large opposition to harvest.

Then when the WMDs suddenly come back on the radar in the form of another pre-election sequel attack on another american liberal stronghold, they'll be able to chastise anyone who ever doubted Bush, distracted efforts and diverted attention. Why, in fact, we ought to round up all those dangerous liberals - they're a threat to security. They're the enemy, they're not citizens. Look what they did.

Get it?

1. Um...no.
Much as they try to use all events for their advantage, and I'm sure they'll find some way to discredit someone or tie them ever closer to the common cause, this was not planned. This was a fuckup and they underestimated it. Any quibbly little semi-admissions were merely a half-step ahead of the onrushing wave.

Credibility is the currency of politics. Powell should note who else is "overblown, overwrought and overdrawn."; truly, a most unfortunate quote.

2. No.
That would be tantamount to telling someone you had AIDS because you were afraid they would be angry that you gave them the clap.

4. Not even a remote chance
Bush*'s ass is caught in a trap and he's trying to figure out which leg to gnaw off to get out.

This is the most apt analogy I've seen of the situation.

7. Remember the knight in Monty Python's Holy Grail movie?
First he loses one arm in a sword fight (Tenant) than the second arm (Colin Powell), then one leg (Condoleeza?) and then the second leg (Chaney), and he's still insisting he's winning!
