Times Man of The Year.

......The winner must be "the person or persons who most affected the news and our lives, for good or for ill, and embodied what was important about the year, for better or for worse," he said.
US aviator Charles Lindbergh was Time's first Man of the Year in 1927. Some selections have been notoriously unpopular, such as Adolf Hitler in 1938, Joseph Stalin in 1939 and 1942, and Iran's Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini in 1979.
This year the magazine named the conservative Power Line as its first Blog of the Year. Mr Kelly said blogs or web logs - websites that often mix news, gossip and opinion - are "here to stay".......

1. Fine company
bush fits in nicely with them. Hitler and Stalin suppressed their people, as did the Ayatoilet and he also used fundamentalism as a weapon, er, tool, to get his subjects to comply.

3. To be fair
I think that the computer was once named machine of the year? So that means the tyranical lord X-124 and his robotic minions (who are scheduled to take over in 2054) are also in that category.

7. From the '38 MOTY article, interesting parallels to today:
"Meanwhile, Germany has become a nation of uniforms, goose- stepping to Hitler's tune, where boys of ten are taught to throw hand grenades, where women are regarded as breeding machines."

{Military video games and a hostility to abortion rights -- what goes around comes around.}

"Most cruel joke of all, however, has been played by Hitler & Co. on those German capitalists and small businessmen who once backed National Socialism as a means of saving Germany's bourgeois economic structure from radicalism. The Nazi credo that the individual belongs to the state also applies to business. Some businesses have been confiscated outright, on other what amounts to a capital tax has been levied. Profits have been strictly controlled. Some idea of the increasing Governmental control and interference in business could be deduced from the fact that 80% of all building and 50% of all industrial orders in Germany originated last year with the Government. Hard-pressed for food- stuffs as well as funds, the Nazi regime has taken over large estates and in many instances collectivized agriculture, a procedure fundamentally similar to Russian Communism."

{In the US, the gov't is borrowing heavily against the future and trying to spend to make the economy better, but all that spending is benefitting a few very rich insiders, and the end result is that were not sure where the line between the gov't and the private sector is. How can Halliburton be considered a private company when it gets millions in no bid contracts paid for with taxpayer money? They've merged with the governmen and couldn't survive on their own in a free marekt. Meanwhile, small businesspeople, the ones who support Bush, are paying corporate taxes in a way that makes them extremely uncompetive vs huge companies with miniscule relative tax burdens.}

"As 1938 drew to a close many were the signs that the Nazi economy of exchange control, barter trade, lowered standard of living, "self-sufficiency," was cracking."

{Cheney's eBay, is sort of a modern equivanlent to "barter trade," isn't it? And the economy is cracking}

"Nor were signs lacking that many Germans disliked the cruelties of their Government, but were afraid to protest them."

{We certainly won't be protesting them at this year's inauguration!}

"Having a hard time to provide enough bread to go round, Fuhrer Hitler was being driven to give the German people another diverting circus."

{NFL half-time shows, the Peterson trial, what next? Michael Jackson's trial?}

l"The Nazi controlled press, jumping the rope at the count of Propaganda Minister Paul Joseph Goebbels, shrieked insults at real and imagined enemies. And the pace of the German dictatorship quickened as more & more guns rolled from factories and little more butter was produced."

{Is there an echo in here?}

5. Nazi Pierre Laval and Heydrich
Edited on Mon Dec-20-04 09:43 AM by seemslikeadream

Time Magazine, April, 27, 1942, with Nazi Pierre Laval

Laval now ordered the French police to begin rounding up Jews in France. He also took the controversial decision in June 1942 to send skilled labourers to Germany in exchange for French prisoners of war. In September he gave permission for the Gestapo to hunt down the French Resistance in unoccupied France.

Pierre Laval was charged with aiding the enemy and violating state security. He was found guilty and was shot by a firing squad at Fresnes Prison in Paris on 15th October, 1945

Time Magazine, Febuary, 23, 1942, with Nazi (Gestapo Executioner) Heydrich

On May 27, 1942 at approximately 10:30 am, two Czech patriots, Jan Kubis and Josef Gabcik, parachuted from Britain into Prague, ambushed Heydrich's Mercedes and threw a bomb into the front seat. Heydrich was seriously wounded and the driver of a baker's van took him to the Bulkova hospital. He remained in critical condition for days. On May 29, Joseph Goebbels blamed Jewish terrorists for the attack, arrested 500 Berlin Jews and warned the leaders of the Jewish community that "for every Jewish act of terrorism or sedition, one hundred or one hundred fifty of the Jews in our hands will be shot." (12) He also charged a crowd of Jews in the Sachsenhausen concentration camp with conspiracy and shot them on the spot. Nazi leaders proclaimed a state of emergency and a curfew in Prague. They offered a reward of 10,000,000 crowns for the capture of Heydrich's attackers. A wave of Nazi executions swept the Czech areas and the entire villiage of Lidice was wiped out. An SS general in charge of the deportation of Jews to Treblinka, Belzec and Sobibor named the operation "Operation Reinhard" after Heydrich.

9. And to think that Poppy Prescott Bush did business with Nazis
George Bush: The Unauthorized Biography --- by Webster G. Tarpley & Anton Chaitkin

Chapter - II - The Hitler Project
Bush Property Seized--Trading with the Enemy
In October 1942, ten months after entering World War II, America was preparing its first assault against Nazi military forces. Prescott Bush was managing partner of Brown Brothers Harriman. His 18-year-old son George, the future U.S. President, had just begun training to become a naval pilot. On Oct. 20, 1942, the U.S. government ordered the seizure of Nazi German banking operations in New York City which were being conducted by Prescott Bush.
Under the Trading with the Enemy Act, the government took over the Union Banking Corporation, in which Bush was a director. The U.S. Alien Property Custodian seized Union Banking Corp.'s stock shares, all of which were owned by Prescott Bush, E. Roland `` Bunny '' Harriman, three Nazi executives, and two other associates of Bush.@s1
The order seizing the bank `` vests '' (seizes) `` all of the capital stock of Union Banking Corporation, a New York corporation, '' and names the holders of its shares as:
`` E. Roland Harriman--3991 shares ''

`` Cornelis Lievense--4 shares ''

`` Harold D. Pennington--1 share ''

`` Ray Morris--1 share ''

`` Prescott S. Bush--1 share ''

11. Commander-in-Chief of the German Navy Raeder

Commander-in-Chief of the German Navy, Raeder' was responsible for strengthening the German navy and specifically for policy of unrestricted U-boat warfare against the British. He supported the fight against" Bolshevism and international Jewry". After the war, he was sentenced to life as a war criminal and was released in 1955.

Senator Harry Truman

when investigating the national defense program, as committee chairman told newsmen before Farish testified: "I think this approaches treason. Farish began breaking apart at these hearings. He shouted his "indignation" at the senators, and claimed he was not "disloyal."After the March-April hearings ended, more dirt came gushing out of the Justice Department and the Congress on Farish and Standard Oil. Farish had deceived the US Navy to prevent the Navy from acquiring certain patents, while supplying them to the Nazi war machine; meanwhile he was supplying gasoline and tetraethyl lead to Germany's submarines and air force.
Communications between Standard and I.G. Farben from the outbreak of World War II were released to the Senate, showing that tFarish's organization had arranged to deceive the U.S. government into passing over Nazi-owned assets: They would nominally buy I.G.'s share in certain patents because "in the event of war between ourselves and Germany .. .it would certainly be very undesirable to have this 20 percent Standard-I.G pass to an alien property custodian of the U.S. who might sell it to an unfriendly interest.
In August, Farish was brought back for more testimony. He was now frequently accused of lying. Farish was crushed under the intense, public grilling; he became morose, ashen. While Prescott Bush escaped publicity when the government seized his Nazi banking organization in October, Farish had been nailed. He collapsed and died of a heart attack on November 29, 1942.
The Farish family was devastated by the exposure. Son William Stamps Farish, Jr., a lieutenant in the Army Air Force, was humiliated by the public knowledge that his father was fueling the enemy's aircraft; he died in a training accident in Texas six months later. With this double death the fortune comprising much of Standard Oil's profits from Texas and Nazi Germany was now to be settled upon the little four-year-old grandson, William...overlapping the intelligence and financial worlds-The Bush Farish axis started George Bush's career.

A Senate investigating committee under Senator (later US President Harry Truman of Missouri had called Arnold to testify at hearings on corporations' collaboration with the Nazi. The Senators expressed outrage at the cynical way Farish was continuing an alliance with the Hitler regime that begun back in 1933, when Farish became chief of Jersey Standard. Didn't he know there was a war on?

13. Farish's are good friends of the Bush's and
Nazi loot has had a hand in their future success.

In the book by Brigadier General Russell Bowen "Immaculate Deception" a good friend and 'money manager' for Bush is cited:

...... While Democratic candidate Michael Dukakis spent most of the 1988 presidential campaign trying to dodge the liberal label , George Bush and the Republican National Committee have carefully rejected any discussion of the "N-word" through three national campaigns. This is not at all surprising, in light of the fact that Bush's closest friend and confidante is Texas mystery man William Stamps Farish III, inheritor of the Auschwitz death camp fortune.
When he was elected vice president in 1980 Bush designated Farish to manage all of his personal wealth in a "blind trust". As one of the richest men in Texas, Farish keeps his own business affairs secret. Bush knows that he can rely on Farish to keep the secrets about his own family money, since Farish's family fortune is made in the same Nazi enterprise with George Bush's father.

Farish's grandfather, W.S. Farish, pleaded "no contest" in 1942 to charges of criminal conspiracy with the Nazis. As president and chief executive of Standard Oil of New Jersey, Farish was the controller of the global cartel between Standard Oil and German I.G. Farben concern.....

14. Hideki Tojo

Time Magazine, November, 3rd. 1941, with Japan's Hideki Tojo (and Article), including Itagaki and Nishio, 1 Month before Pearl Harbor

___________

When George Bush was elected vice president in 1980, Texas mystery man William Stamps Farish III took over management of all of George Bush's personal wealth in a "blind trust." Known as one of the richest men in Texas, Will Farish keeps his business affairs under the most intense secrecy. Only the source of his immense wealth is known, not its employment.

...
President Bush can count on Farish not to betray the violent secrets surrounding the Bush family money. For Farish's own family fortune was made in the same Hitler project, in a nightmarish partnership with George Bush's father.

On March 25, 1942, U.S. Assistant Attorney General Thurman Arnold announced that William Stamps Farish (grandfather of the President'smoney manager) had pleaded "no contest" to charges of criminal conspiracy with the Nazis. Farish was the principal manager of a worldwide cartel between STANDARD OIL CO. of NEW JERSEY and the I.G. FARBEN concern. The merged enterprise HAD OPENED the Auschwitz slave labor camp on June 14, 1940, to produce artificial rubber and gasoline from coal. The Hitler government supplied political opponents and Jews as the slaves, who were worked to near death and then murdered.

...

The Bush-Farish axis started George Bush's career. After his 1948 graduation from Yale (and the Skull and Bones secret society), George Bush flew down to Texas on a corporate jet and was employed by his father's DRESSER INDUSTRIES. In a couple of years he

got help from his uncle, George Walker, Jr., and Farish's British banker friends, to set him up in the oil property speculation business. Soon thereafter, George Bush founded the ZAPATA Oil Company, which put oil drilling rigs into certain locations of great strategic interest to the Anglo-American intelligence community. <"Zapata" was allegedly a code word used by these same mega-bankers describing the first Communist Revolution which they had financially backed -- as they had done with the Nazi's themselves. - Wol.>

Twenty-five-year-old Will Farish was personal aide to Zapata chairman George Bush in Bush's unsuccessful 1964 campaign for Senate. Farish used "that Auschwitz money" to back George Bush financially, investing in Zapata. When Bush was elected to Congress in 1966, Farish joined the Zapata board.
