Is someone at the HRC on crack?
I just got an email from the HRC that said this

"First, let me be clear that our long term goals remain intact. Tactics adapt, goals do not. We remain committed to marriage equality. It is the optimal protection for our families and our support is unwavering. At the same time, we know we will face another FMA attack that we must defeat. And in Congress, we believe there may be opportunities to craft some real benefits and protections that are now denied to us."

"And in Congress, we believe there may be opportunities to craft some real benefits and protections that are now denied to us."

I truly wish we could take off the rose glasses for once. It amazes me that after the last 4 years there are still progressives who think the repubs in congress are actually going to let us get ANYTHING through. And that doesn't just go for GLBT rights either.

I've heard others saying "don't worry - they will NEVER take away our reproductive freedom". It reminds me of being told "don't worry - they'll NEVER invade Iraq" prior to the invasion.

I wish our people would get a freaking clue. Instead of saying "they'll NEVER do X" or "We have opportunities in congress" we should be saying "In all honesty, we're fu**ed. Things will NOT be getting better, and yes they WILL continue to screw us over. Keep that in mind as the elections in 2006 approach."

I think this denial of just how nuts these people are is half of what's letting them walk all over us. We need to recognize this as well as the fact they won't be giving us an inch as long as they are in power.

2. There was an article a few weeks back where they said they were
going to tone things down. I believe it was a newspaper article but forget the details.

4. I was so disappointed after the election ..
I decided to support the causes I believe in - and I joined the HRC. Many DUers encouraged me. I don't regret it, but doubt that I will renew, after recent happenings that were a surprise to many.

I think that I will contribute also to PFLAG and NGLTF (National Gay and Lesbian Task Force). Those may be ideas.

I try a particular org. for a year, and then decide if it stays on the list.

PFLAG - the social worker in me loves it. So much support for those who could use it in this intolerant society.

But I also want to contribute to an effective lobbying group. Equality California and National Gay and Lesbian Task Force are ideas.

Looks like the HRC might be backing off of progressive principles. I'm not so happy there.

3. Hillary Rosen is running it now.
What about her do you not understand? They might as well change the name to "Hillary Rosen Committee", for it will, in truth, be all about her and her contacts.

I find it really hard to believe that anyone who spearheads a program that sues 12-year-old girls who download music really cares about average folk.

5. Uh-oh. She had something to do with suing a 12-year-old?
Thanks for the heads-up.

She used to be the head of the RIAA, until they finally figured out that her idea pool was pissed in. Google her up. She has a real PR problem.

6. I will never give $ to HRC given their current and past leadership
I much rather give it to my state LGBT group where I know the money is being spent wisely .
