Bill Clinton for DNC Chair
If this has already been discussed - sorry, I must have missed it.

What is wrong with Clinton being DNC Chair? Not dignified enough for a former President? I guess I don't see the down side of this at all. The Big Dog could take on Bushy, Rove and the GOP with one hand tied behind his back, eat them for lunch and leave their bones to be picked over by the MSM vultures. The man can raise money, out think, out manuver, out plan, out talk, and out work anyone the GOP could possibly throw at us. He is such a great asset of the party and I want to use him to get our party back on track.

I want a person who knows how to take on these thugs and come out standing. Lord knows Clinton has plenty of experience doing that. We need a smart, savvy, street fighter who isn't afraid to get his hands dirty, comes out swinging on each and every issue and refuses to back down on one damn thing.

1. I don't think he is interested
or else I'm sure many would be on this bandwagon.

6. Unfortunately for Bill, he'd have to be nominated by the US...
and I don't see Dubya doing that. Besides, the Kofi's job is supposed to go to an asian leader next.

10. Imight be mistaken
But I think the rules prevent anyone who is a citizen of a security council member from becoming secutary general.

12. You would be correct, but that fact doesn't stop some DUers...
... from their continuing fantasies and worship of all things Clinton.

3. No, thanks.
Although he has star quality and a well known name, I don't think he's the one to lead the party through the transition away from the DLC.

And that's got to be the DU understatement of the day.

4. "Bill Clinton for DNC Chair" might
get in the way for a Hillary run in 2008.

Think about it. What would our response be if Jeb Bush was head of the RNC during the last s-election.

Talk about red meat for the repugs and the MSM!!!

5. There's lots that's wrong with that idea...
First off, it's not befitting a former President. Clinton can be much more effective doing what he's doing now -- working on AIDS and global climate crisis.

Secondly, it just turns the Democratic Party back into the Cult of Clinton. No thanks. I was never a big fan of his when he was President, and I don't think I want someone as Party Chairman whose advice to John Kerry was to embrace the ballot initiatives against gay marriage.

Bill Clinton was a wildly popular politician, but he never encountered a principle he was unwilling to sell out on in order to try and get the opposition to like him. I think we need to look forward, not backward, for the direction of the future Democratic Party.

7. I thought it was a good idea as well
but I kinda got flamed for my post.

A lot of folks here at the DU think that Clinton is too middle of the road ...which I tend to agree, but he is such a leader.

11. He doesn't have to be the DNC Chair for life
But we need a cohesive, strong leader to remind Democrats what we stand for as a group. I am a huge fan of Clinton and I think his approval ratings during the "scandals" all the way through his leaving office right on through today bear out that he has the ability to unify the party and take on the repugs. Clinton did make compromises while in office but his record certainly bears out the wisdom of working on issues instead of ramming party platforms down the other side's throat and calling it policy. I believe his has the ability to be inclusive to all people wanting to work within the Democratic party.

I personally did not look for Clinton to be my moral leader, always felt that any personal problems of his should be dealt within his own family and it is way past time to quit up beating him up over it. The man is smart - that makes him ten times better than anyone the repugs can come up with to counter him.

8. Love Big Dawg
But not for this. I heard him give a speech several weeks ago where he advocated "reaching out to red states" and their so called moral values thing. At this point he seems too entrenched in the very things I think we should move away from.

13. The DNC chair needs a leader
for all the party and needs to be able to pull the party together as a united force.

He also needs to be a lot more of a strategist than a money machine,

Terry was a great money man, but a lousy general.

14. Not just no, but hell no.
If I wanted to put a 'Pug in that office, I would go find one, not try to slip in a 'Pug in Dem clothing like Clinton.

You can laugh all you want but what record would YOU would be good enough for you? I know the facts, assure you I'm not snowed by Clinton or your rhetoric. The man has a track record that worked and right now theClinton years are heaven compared to the hell we find ourselves in with BushyBoy. The DNC is fractured beyond belief and we cannot continue to ignore that fact if we ever want to win another election. I want a unifier so that we can live to fight another day. You personal animosity toward Clinton is not borne out by most polls - he is still very popular and is recognized as a true statesman. You don't have to like Clinton but at least recognize that he did accomplish many worthwhile things while in office. And if you think we lived under a police state with Clinton what on earth would you call the fascism we now under?

I did address that I was wondering if it would be unseemly for a man of his stature to head the DNC but I was at least opening the question to discussion, nothing more. I just don't see anyone else on the Democratic scene right now that could possibly mend the party in a time frame that is necessary to save this country.

And please do not call people ignorant if you can't even spell the damn word.

17. good powerful arguments..
but it must be weighed against the baggage he would bring. He's charismatic, and I want to see him in a leadership role. Good discussion, though. BTW, I don't think he'd accept, he's had enough of being dragged through mud and dirty fighting against him.

19. I think he would be brilliant!
Probably more than anyone I've seen in modern political times, President Clinton knows how to connect with people, he knows how to explain the issues of the day, he's a great fundraiser, and he knows how to win.

He'd be brilliant!
