WooHoo Republican want to give me money!!!!!!!
I recently wrote a letter critical of whistle ass and sent it into the my local paper. That same paper also has what an "open line" section. In response to my letter someone called the open line and left this message
"Im calling in regard to Brian *******'s letter to the editor Friday; If he doesn't like living in the United States and thinks everything's so bad, I'm sure there's some Republicans that would get together and buy him a one-way ticket to Iran, Iraq, El Salvador, Honduras or wherever ht thinks would be a great place to live."

I love being offerd cash to move. Maybe I can buy a better house. Here was my original letter and if im not mistaken this person has made my point that many americans are quick to give up others rights when it doesnt suit their political needs. Let me know what you think.

To the editorial staff,

Your August 22 analysis of Madeleine Albright's thesis is what is flawed. Your assertion that the United states has practiced a "wallflower aggressiveness" and "refrained from boldly interventionist tactics" is false. If I may I will refresh your memory. In 1953 the US and British conspired to overthrow the democratically elected government of Iran. Did you forget about Viet Nam? The US has also meddled in the internal politics of many other nation. Nicaragua, El Salvador, and Honduras are just a few more of the countries.

We have supported dictatorships in the name of "national security". The Shah, Pinochet, and even Saddam Hussein have been beneficiaries of US backing. All three of these leaders tortured and brutalized their own populations with sanction and support from the US. This fact goes a long way in answering the question "why do they hate us?".

The editorial also asks the question if "European recalcitrance may have more to do with European arrogance that American arrogance"? I would submit Mr. Bush's cowboy "my way or the highway" attitude assured that, with the exception of Britain, our only allies were those that could be bought. It was a coalition of the BILLING.

The editorial finally gets one fact right but still misses the point. It is now impossible for Saddam Hussein to hand a nuclear bomb to terrorist. The possibility of that happening while Saddam was in power was at best not likely. He didn’t have a nuclear bomb to hand out unless you believe the cherry picked intelligence put forth by the Bush administration. Now any WMD’s that might have still been in Iraq are not accounted for and could be in the hands of just about anyone including the terrorist that are now killing American soldiers. In the mean time Afganistan is slipping back into the lawlessness that created a safe place for Al Queda in the first place.

Are we safer now than before the "preemptive" attack on Iraq? We are now less respected and feared more. We speak of democracy and human rights for all but throw these principles away when they don’t seem to suit us for the moment. The rest of world see this contradiction between our words and actions, actions that only serve those that would brainwash all to hate us.

1. I was about to say...

If the Repubs wanted to give you money, your handle must really be "RICH Illini"! :D

BUT...upon further reading, I see just why, and what, you mean. Funny how, as the "Top Ten" this week pointed out, Repubs are forever telling us "America--love it or LEAVE it!", while they are sending their fund-raising phone banking operations to...India!:eyes:

Your letter was a really good catalogue of what previous intelligence-based "quagmires" we've found ourselves in. And anyone--editor or otherwise--who'd rag on Madeline Albright and her sterling foreign policy record on behalf of a REAL "internationalist" policy of strength and benevolence, is about as crazy as Grumpy Rummy and all of his little Neo-Con minions! x(

Glad you told 'em what for, ILLINI. And, BTW, WELCOME to DU!:kick:

B-)

2. Hmm
One thing kills me about this "Love it or leave it" strategy.

Why did these America-hating right wingers attack Clinton for his military campaigns and for his affair with Lewinsky.

After all, if all they wanted to do is defame the president and complain, shouldn't they have just left the country to those who truly loved it? The world would have been a better place...

4. Very well-written letter to the editor!
The response definitely illustrates the intellectual capacity — or lack thereof — of your opposition. Will you be writing a response to the person who invited you to leave the country? I think it would be appropriate and if you do, please post it here.

5. If Republicans have such a problem with free speech
and people who dare to speak up and criticize their government, maybe THEY should be the ones buying one-way tickets to Iran, Iraq, et al.

8. Excellent letter
Hits all the key points, backs it up with facts and concludes with the reality that we're actually worse off after two years of this 'war on terror'.

"15,000,000,000 In Verterans Benefits Cuts
Is This how Mr. bush supports our troops?"
"Democrats Make Better lovers
who ever heard about a good piece of elephant?"
"Has Anyone Seen My Constitutional Rights?"

10. My retort!!!
Edited on Thu Sep-04-03 08:39 PM by illini
this is I sent in reply to the right wing nut.

I would like clarify my previous letter to the editor. In that letter I examined some past and current FORIEGN POLICIES and how these policies have hurt the manner in which the rest of the world percieves us and our government. I never discussed conditions in the United States.
One of my points was that some Americans and some administrations have or are willing to forsake the AMERICAN ideas of freedom of speech, thought and political dissent when it suits their own political gain. Doing so to achieve a short term political goal is unacceptable. I would like to thank the Open Line caller for giving an example of the "my way or the highway attitude" that the United States needs to avoid in order to preserve its credibility with the rest of the world.
As a voting American I believe it is not my right or privledge but, my duty to speak out if I agree or disagree with the actions and policies of those leading this country. I welcome anyone to write a letter and present facts that dispute my assertions. But, simply questioning my patriotism and suggesting I leave the country and home I love will not suffice as a credible arguement. By the way, any Republican donations to my travel fund will be forwarded to a Democratic Presidential Candidate.

Thanks
Brian

11. Short, sweet and to the point
Let us know if it gets published and if you receive further responses. You brought out the fact that all they do is make personal attacks without providing any facts to refute your statements.

Thank you for taking a stand.
