This report on the media blew me away!
Saw this insider's report today and am devastated, even though it was evident for a long time. Now, with the GOP right wing in charge of everything, fear is the mood of the day, and there will be no accountablity at all.

Here's a quote from the article by Jeff Cohen:

"What I've found inside TV news is a drunken exuberance for stories involving celebrity, lurid crime and sex scandal -- matched by a grim timidity and fear of offending the powers that be, especially if they're conservatives. The biggest fear is of doing anything that could get you or your network accused of being liberal."

We're truly done for.. unless the alternative news on the Internet becomes the main source of news for most Americans, and that's years away. The damage will have been done, big time.

4. That is why my TV is now adamantly OFF during the news hour
Let them spew RNC talking points and tabloid trash while blatantly lying by omission to SUCKERS who voted for Idiot. Let their advertisers lose half their audience.

Starve the beast.

5. Does this mean
That Robert Byrd will make the fashion section after Saturday nights speech, instead of the editorial and news section?

7. No surprise but not permanent...
As long as we keep acting like "liberal" is a dirty word, everyone else will see it that way. I agree with Chris Bowers over at MyDD.com -- he says that what the Democratic Party needs to do is not necessarily take more liberal positions than we have now, but to start actually defending liberalism itself and stop acting like we're to be ashamed of the term. Until we start taking pride in where we stand on the political spectrum, no one else will respect it either, and the media will continue to "give the public what it wants," i.e. a world-view where conservatism is worthy of at least grudging respect from everyone, but liberalism is something no one takes seriously.

The first step in turning the tide in this country is to stand up for ourselves and our positions. If we stop acting like "liberalism" is an obscenity, others will begin to stop seeing it as that, too. Believe it or not, there was a time forty or so years ago when "conservatism" was just as ridiculed, and just as presumably "out of the mainstream" as liberalism is today -- and it remained that way until conservatives rehabilitated the word by taking pride in it. We need to do the same thing, starting now!

8. Let's face it--corporate media owns and controls this country
more than the government does-of course, they're all in cahoots together. It's sad, really sad. But we don't have the power or the big bucks to take it back. Sure, we shut down Sinclair, but they're a bunch of bumbling idiots to begin with. The real dangers are the networks and I don't see how we can ever wrest control away from the stranglehold they have on the message. I hate to be such a downer, but I just don't see a way around this. They're doing their damndest to ignore Media Matters, despite the fine work that organization does. And they now consider the Democratic party a national joke and aren't going to listen to anything our leaders say or do, even if they tried to do something (which they won't do because they all seem to have had their spines surgically removed). I'm all for suggestions but I've yet to see one that would work. Canceling your cable isn't an option-they sign up more than a day than we could ever muster up in numbers to match them in a month.

9. Read Isabel Allende's book, "Of Love and Shadows"
It's a fictional account of what went on in Chile (her father, Salvador, was overthrown courtesy of our CIA.) Her description of the Chilean media at that time is a mirror image of our own today.
