15. At the end of counting Monday, Gregoire leads by 158 votes
Amazing turn of events on Monday. King County (Seattle) announced an additional 21,000 votes it had not counted. That county favors Gregoire roughly 63-37%. Prior to Monday, even Democratic state officials believed the election models, projecting a Rossi win of about 3000 votes.

Now this race is a near toss up. Some models still project a Rossi win of about 1300 votes, but concede the makeup of the outstanding votes is more unclear. King County counted 17,000 of the additional 21,000 on Monday, leaving 4000 remaining among the 20,000 estimated votes to be counted. Most of the ballots are in counties generally favoring Rossi, but most are also provisional and absentee ballots, which tend to favor Gregoire more than standard votes.

We are likely headed toward a recount, automatic if the margin is below 2000. For reference purposes, Maria Cantwell gained 306 votes in her 2000 senatorial recount versus Slade Gordon in Washington.

19. Hyperventilating!
OK, breathing sloooowly. I hope, I REALLY hope Gregoire pulls through. Rossi is a bible thumper in nice guy's clothing... He will turn Washington into a red state, whether the rest of us want it or not.
If he wins, the loonies in the sticks will proclaim it as "God's Will"... please, don't let this happen! :scared: :scared: :scared:

23. Check this out from the PI:
Edited on Tue Nov-16-04 12:24 AM by Zorra
Gregoire edged ahead by 158 votes out of more than 3 million cast, after days of trailing Rossi. Democrats celebrated when they heard that election officials in King County - which favors Gregoire - discovered they had 10,000 more uncounted ballots than previously estimated.
snip---
On Monday morning, King County estimated it had about 11,000 votes remaining to count. But that estimate was revised upward to 21,000.
snip----
Bobbie Egan, spokeswoman for the King County elections office, said the county verified more provisional ballots than expected and absentee ballot turnout was higher than projected. Election workers counted 17,000 ballots Monday, so 4,000 remain to be counted. Wednesday is the deadline for counties to certify their election results to the secretary of state.
snip---
Across the state, about 22,000 votes remain to be counted. Of the six counties with more than a thousand votes outstanding, three favor Rossi - Benton, Skagit and Yakima - and three favor Gregoire - King, Thurston and Whatcom.
