| Starting a politics Shoutcast radio station online? |
|
Does anyone have the capability or is anyone else interested in starting a Shoutcast radio station online? Kind of like Air America, but with some more interesting programming? Less commercials. Possibly some independent programming as well (to appeal to moderates and others).

HDSL(for lots of connections), good server(s) running Linux or FreeBSD, and PC with mixer software. Mics. Tape machines and CD players.

I don't know if my connection is good enough - plain DSL. I can easily broadcast to a relay server or something - but I'm wondering if anyone else is willing to help out there .

I owne a shortwave radio, and I would love to hear more progressive/left of center commentary on shortwave radio.
I don't know anything about starting a shortwave program, but I do tune in to various shortwave programming, such as Radio Canada International, Radio Havana Cuba, Radio Netherlands, BBC World Service, etc.

Online streaming is good, but I hate relying on the internet to listen to shows. Suppose your computer breaks down, or the stream isn't working, and there is a program you really want to tun in to?
I'm greatful for online streaming. It is what allows me to listen to Air America radio right now, since they aren't on the airwaves in DC yet. But I prefer being able to listen with my radio.

Well it would be impossible for me to get on a normal radio station, so online would have to do....

| 9. Shoutcast is a program |
|
Shoutcast is a program that someone runs on their computer - a server for radio. Anyone can tune in to a file on a web server, then, and play the radio stream in their Winamp or RealPlayer. The listener doesn't deal with it.
