| Michael Scheuer, CBS, said two words that the repugs will play |
|
over and over as they did John Kerry's "I voted for the 87B before I voted against it". Those two words are "great" and "respected". Those of us who heard the interview will know what each word means in context as spoken by Mr. Scheuer, but he will be brutalized, marginalized by repugs tomorrow discrediting him with his own words. They will say, "How can you believe someone who says OBL is a "geat" man and why should anyone in his right mind "respect" him.
What do you think, my fellow DUers?

reality is, OBL is respected by Muslims, and he is tactically sound
Most important, unlike the Kool aid brigade, he took Tzun Tsu to heart and has learned all he can about his enemy

Sorry, but Osama doesn't rule my life and I don't give a damn what he wants. He's a murderer and if he thinks he's going to become the next Arafat, he can shove it. He represents nobody but himself and everyone who is generally pissed off at American arrogance. Fine.
But respect him? Respect that self-important spoiled rich boy? He's George in a sheet.

| 4. I agree with you. I don't respect him either. |

But I don't think Mr. Scheuer meant to "look up to him because of his goodness" as I think respect means. I think he meant it more as to understand his evilness, his willingness to destroy his enemies at any cost, and his patience and persistence to do just that.
Hey, that sounds a lot like Bush, doesn't it?
I don't fear him either. My life isn't ruled by what he does or says.

| 5. OBL is hardly "George in a sheet". That is underestimating him. |
|
Like it or not he genuinely believes in what he is doing and has done it at great personal sacrifice. Something Bush knows absolutely nothing about. OBL sees us as every bit as evil as we see him. We have killed a lot more Arabs than Arabs have Americans. They have very long memories. We don't know our own history let alone their's. This is a long way from being over.

Both are very good perhaps even "great" at being what they are - quite dangerous.
I take OBL as serious as a heart attack. He soberly and seriously intends to do us harm, and has shown the ability to pull it off.
Bush has laid down the challenge. "Bring it on" he says. "we are attacking them there so we do not have to fight them here" he says. I think Osama would like to prove Bush wrong and I hope not to be on the receiving end.

but earlier this evening posted an essay with a couple sections on Michael, called "Go Tell It On The Mountain" on GD. He is an intelligent man who knows the administration is committing a grave error in telling the public that bin Laden is a rabid mad-man. He is far more dangerous than that. People should read Scheuer's books.
