"This is God"
I decided not to go to church this morning. I woke up with the song "This is God" on my mind and couldn't shake it.

I decided to listen to the song and let that be my worship this morning. I wish churches all across the country would play the song, but I doubt the message could pierce most of their Christian armor, their hardened hearts, or their cemented brains. But it's been an important song to my husband and me because of its words and the singer's vocals. It never fails to make my soul ache or my eyes tear.

Those who are familiar with the song, written and performed by Phil Vassar a couple of years ago, know it's message. For those who don't, I would encourage you to download it (you can can listen to a clip at Phil's site if you have Windows Media Player. Go to this link and click on "Samples Only" on the right side of the page and click on "This is God" when the jukebox pops up: http://www.philvassar.com/3/modules.php?op=modload&name... )

Also, here is an article on Phil and the song after it was released. The lyrics are at the bottom of the article: http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/features/20030424-99...

<<snip>>
"It's not meant to be an anti-war song or anything," says Vassar, who carefully makes it clear that he supports the troops in Iraq. "It's about hate. That's all it is. Some folks get it. ... It's a pretty simple message."

..."It's an attempt to be a deeper, more spiritual approach to the human anger we all feel," he says. "We're all guilty of feeling that way."

How does this 39-year-old singer and songwriter know what God's thinking?

"We're killing each other. He can't like that," he says.

1. A bit more secular but I get the same feeling from
Sting's "Love is the Seventh Wave"

3. I tend to lean more to Ian Hunter's God Take 1.
But that's just me.

4. "This is God"
For a minute, I thought you were going to reference a scene from Nightmare on Elm Street.

When Freddy is chasing the girl in the alley and says "This...is God!" as he cuts a few fingers off & anti-freeze shoots out.

Think about that next time you're in church.

6. Oh, thanks, I'd rather not
I've never watched the Freddie flicks, so that should be easy.

I'm not so sure about that pic of Nancy Reagan though. It might be difficult to burn that image out of my mind. :(

Sweet of you to make suggestions though.
