I've got a problem with the Nader recount Fundraising.......
Here's why:

http://www.usatoday.com/news/politicselections/nation/president/2004-11-01-nader-campaign_x.htm

(snip)
While Bush and Democrat John Kerry rushed from crowded tarmac to crowded tarmac, a tired-looking Nader, 70, made his way along interstate highways and back roads from New Hampshire to New Jersey. Because he shuns corporate money and relies on book sales, door admissions and bucket-passing, his campaign is $100,000 in debt. To save money, he flies Southwest Airlines and stays with friends, even if it means driving far out of his way. On Sunday, he held a Halloween fundraiser at an Irish pub in Hoboken before heading 50 miles south to stay with a friend in Princeton.

So, ummmm, why is the specific ask for the Nader recount somewhere around 100K again?

1. You can give to David Cobb instead.
I gave to David Cobb of the Green Party for the recount at:
http://web.greens.org/c/cobb/supporters.cgi?function=donate

Nader ran as an independent this year.

3. Green Party might look better, but are they serious about Ohio?
And how much will it cost? And by when?

7. Yes, they are serious. They want to collect 150, 000 by Monday.
They already collected 70,000 $.

2. Nader and the NH recount aren't asking for about 100K
Edited on Fri Nov-12-04 06:59 PM by htuttle
I'm pretty sure I read that it was a $2000 deposit, with a $35,000 fee later on.

Cobb and the Green Party are asking for $110,000 to recount Ohio, because Ohio is charging them that much (since they weren't within 3 points of winning).

8. Im suspicious as well
Im suspicious of people who seem to have no facts but many opinions.

Im suspicious of people who dont know that Nader was ASKED to contest the Ohio vote count and readily agreed to do so, doesnt sound like a GOP operative to me, how about you?

15. dont be a horses ass
it isnt becoming.....so it was a little further north and east. My points about Nader remain valid and you exploit and utilize stupid logic and myth, I wonder which fault is more deleterious to the cause of restoring democracy.

6. Why is Nader
mooching off people when he has three million bucks? I don't trust him either.

12. It's part of the image he likes to portray. As I said in another
post today, his ego is about the size of NH.

13. He's NOT mooching; he was asked to do this BY ME.
Only three people could ask for New Hampshire to be recounted -- Bush, Kerry & Nader. I wasn't going to ask Bush, Kerry couldn't be found, and so I *begged* the Nader folk only a few hours before the deadline was coming up. We've been doing everything we can to make this happen, and its been a huge headache, but its looking like its going to happen -- YEAH!!! :)

14. Why the crap about Nader?
Umm why should Nader have to pay for the recounts out of his own pocket?

Because he likes to spend his money?
He was ASKED to do this, he agreed but doesn't want to pay for it. Can't blame the man after the way Democrats treated him.

If you don't want to donate then don't but get off the mans back already. I think he has proven that he is the only one of the main candidates that gives a shit about democracy.
Every time he says recounts, he puts his reputation on the line to protect YOUR vote.

16. Do not be fooled
Nader has long been used by the neocons here to deflect criticisms of the rightward swing by the democrats that has led to defeat after defeat. It is unfortunate that people prefer easy outs and scapegoats to self analysis and rebuilding efforts.

It is always easier to blame and scapegoat than to admit problems, and some of those not of the neocon persuasion are apparently easily led.

10. Which is why you specify its for the RECOUNT --
That way they don't commingle the funds. The request was for $40K because the New Hampshire Sec of State said that much was needed to start. (Well, actually the Attorney General, but you get the idea.) The debt issue is one of the reasons they've been so leery about being involved in this -- they want to help, but they don't want to get bent over financially anymore than they already are. :)

17. Give the man a break, why don't you?
He did not keep Kerry from winning this election, and he had the right to run. Maybe we should help him reduce his debt. He would never ask us, but it seems to me he is a worthy man. Maybe I will donate to him to help him reduce his debt. It would be the christian thing to do, and I are one.
