Email from 15 yr old Iraqi girl
I was surfing the internet and found several blogs of Iraqi teens. Their blogs filled me with such sorrow. Then I began reading comments left for them and became enraged. People calling these children terrorists and wishing them death. It was truly appaling. One of the blogs I visited was of a 15 yr old girl who was deeply troubled by the war and had been having nightmares. I decided to email her. Below is my email to her & her reply. It made me cry but it also made me realize we can't give up yet. It's not just our children we are fighting for but all the children in the world. They need us, please keep fighting for democracy.

hnk,
I just wanted to let you know that I'm thinking of
you. I'm a mother of three children. My oldest
child, a girl is only 11 years old. I can't even
imagine what you are going through right now. I'm so
sorry that you have been having nightmares. I hope
that you will be able to get a good night's rest
soon. I too cried when I heard Bush had been
reelected and I'm still crying. I wish there was
something I could do to help you. I'll send you a
big hug from across the ocean. I only know one
language so I think it is simply amazing that you
know English so well. You sound like a very smart
girl. It must be incredibly hard to study worrying
about all the fighting around you.
Please know that many people in America are worrying
about you and your family and that we hope that one
day soon the fighting will end.
Many regards,
Michelle

thank you Michelle, your letter mean to me alot.
you send it in the right time, before 1 hour there
were many booms near my home, and after that I felt
that I hate americans more than any one in this world,
but you let me change my mind, there are a good
persone in america, like you.
be sure I cryed more than you, I am only 15 years old,
but I feel that I am 60.
I can't live more in Iraq.
I see it dieing in front of me, and I can't change the
situation.
sorry for my bad languich, I will wright to you again
I feel free to write to you this letter.
hope you don't look to iraqi people like a bad people

thank you again for sharing me your feeling

heart wrenching. Please try to stay in touch with her.

Making human contact and reverence for the experiences and cultures of other societies is our only hope for eventual peace in the world.

I've written missives of apology and condolances to Iraqis as well, but none to one so young.

I'll say a prayer. She sounds so sweet.

5. Thanks for sharing.
Very touching correspondence, Michelle. I haven't seen the blogs but that hasn't stopped my heart from aching just trying to even begin to comprehend what those people must going through. That was a very kind thing that you did to write to that precious child. It helps restore some faith in "Americans" on this side of the ocean, too!
And, hey, you're a Texan, too! That explains it!! :)

7. My roommate's family lives in Baghdad, too.
Luckily he is here in the USA. He can't even talk about the war or watch the news. I know it bothers him a great deal. His country is being destroyed. For what? He won't even tell people here where he's from.

I am so sick of this shit.

8. very touching
:grouphug:

You mentioned something in your letter that always gets on my nerves about ignorant RWers: they have the nerve to look down on people from other countries who speak broken English. Nevermind that their president speaks in broken English and has no excuse he'd like to admit to, I'd like to know how much Spanish, Farsi, Arabic, Swahili, etc. any of these RWers can speak.

I was afraid lurkers might be mean to her but I think she could really use all of our support right now. Here is her http://iraqigirl.blogspot.com/

Edited to add: Try cut and pasting the url. I noticed her blog is out of alignment tonight. Maybe it's just the website.

12. wow!

That's pretty much all I have to say to this powerful message. And-it's good to let the world, especially the Iraqis, see that the people don't HAVE to agree with their leader and that there ARE decent people in this country. I just saw "Last Letters Home" and hope that a bootleg or two of it gets sent to other places. NOT that I'm a fan of breaking the law, but believe that it should be seen by as many people as possible. It's good to know that there are people in 'Bush's backyard' who are not giving up after the election disaster. "They" want "us" to just roll over now and lockstep to the unraveling of the Constitution. Quite a lot has changed in two years, not to mentin what's been going on in the last two weeks. "The world only spins forward....."
