Gwen Ifill did background including the memo Gonzalez wrote in which he called the Geneva Conventions "quaint" and told bushboy that he could use torture.

Leahy says he talked to Gonzalez today. He definitely sounds like he intends to vote for him- says he's not a contentious nominee. Yikes. He did voice his support for the sunset provisions in the Patriot act that he co-authored. Gwen asked if Leahy was disturbed by the closeness between Gonzalez and bush. He replied that this wasn't uncommon. Cited Kennedy and Bobby. Question to Specter about Judges. Blah, blah, blah. Wants to end the filibusters. Wants a vote within 90 days. Gwen brought up controversy regarding Specter. Specter said he doesn't have a litmus test and that he's supported pro-life judges. Blah, blah blah about how fair he was to Randy Weaver after the Ruby Ridge debacle. I don't know why he's babbling on about this. Question to Leahy about the memo. "of course we're going to ask questions about it." Leahy sticking up for Specter. Like that will help Specter with the wingnuts.
