It's like he and his team are STILL failing to understand that there is more than one side to a war. It doesn't matter what *we* decide about how the war will go, if we can't make our adversaries go along with it. But these morons JUST...DON'T...GET IT!

9. Two ways to look at the 'deadline'

One is that this is merely an expression of his cynicism (March is too close to the election).

The other is that this is a pathetic attempt at bargaining--trying to give himself the illusion that he still has some control over a situation that has clearly gotten away from him (or was never really under his control to start with). He knows it would be too much to ask of the universe for no more Americans to die ever...but maybe he can negotiate. Hey, God, how about ending this dying thing in March? You think we could work that out? Tell me what you want in exchange, I'll see what I can do.

Either way it's an interesting little window into Bushworld, where apparently he has power over life and death, and wanders around issuing edicts like the Pharaoh in The Ten Commandments. So let it be written--so let it be done!

We will have finished building our four new military bases in Iraq and can then tell the rest of the country to go to hell. Sort of like in Afghanistan.
