"Private Lives and Public Lies"
When I see right-wing republicans on Fox News etc talking about "values," I am reminded of 19 of the best pages of a great book: "Big Lies," by Joe Conason. Chapter 6 is about the big lie that "conservatives protect family values and moral virtue, while liberals promote immorality and vice."

Mr. Conason starts the chapter with this: "That so many right-wingers can still preach about 'family values' and 'declining American morality' without dissolving into laughter is a testament to their mental discipline. No matter how many of the right's virtuecrats are caught committing the sins they claim to condemn, they continue to pretend that they're lecturing the rest of us from the high moral ground." (page 109)

I am curious how many DUers have read this book? I strongly suggest that people who haven't either buy the book, or get it from the library. If we are going to engage in a culture war with the extreme right-wing, this offers plenty of ammunition.
