Iraq Declares Martial Law, 22 Police Killed

FALLUJA, Iraq (Reuters) - Iraq (news - web sites)'s interim Prime Minister Iyad Allawi declared martial law on Sunday and said a U.S.-led military offensive against the rebel-held city of Falluja could not be delayed much longer.

nsurgents have stepped up attacks against U.S.-led forces and Iraqi police to show their muscle before the U.S. offensive on Falluja and police said gunmen killed 22 policemen in three attacks on Sunday.

Allawi was doing all he could to find a peaceful solution, his spokesman Thair al-Naqib said. "He still hopes that it may be possible to avoid a major military confrontation in Falluja ... He is, however, not optimistic," Naqib said.

The Americans say they are only awaiting the word from Allawi to attack. Late on Sunday, U.S. troops were massed at the edge of the city on two sides.

1. That bottom photo is from Mosul....
Another supply truck blown to bits. It happens daily along with a lot of other various and sundry bombings that they never talk about. Face it allawi and bush*, ALL of Iraq is out of control. The pockets of resistance reside in your own little heads.

2. In the old days... Saddam would have done it himself... what is up with
that????

Maybe it is all just a big joke to them... maybe it's all just fun and games....

3. That's how democratic Iraq is.
Posting up martial law, oppressing its' citizens just as bad, if not worse, as Saddam did, and letting US planes bomb the living hell out of their cities.

Yes, Iraq is now more of a "democracy".

The question i have is what the HELL! is this Allawi doing ordering our troops in the first place. the order to go into Falluja should be done from the pentagon not some puppet of Iraq that was not even living in that country before U.S. invaded. WTF! is going on here i don't trust this Allawi or iraqi troops who are with our troops.
