How do we bring up war crime charges on the Bush administration?
Edited on Sun Nov-07-04 03:20 PM by Cleita
Both Noam Chomsky and Koffi Anan have stated that the invasion of Iraq by the USA is a war crime. So I'm navigating around the World Court site at the Hague. Apparently, individuals or coalitions cannot bring up charges, only sovereign nations, which means Iraq has to press the charges.

What a catch 22. Could Saddam do it? Or could any nation, who thinks this invasion is crap do it, like Switzerland? Even could our Native Americans do it? Aren't they supposed to be considered sovereign nations?

Whoever can do it, and who feels safe from American retaliation, I wish they would, sooner rather than later.

1. Jurisdiction...
I wish. I wish I wish I wish. But are we subject to the world court? I remember the whole fracas regarding America falling under the world court, because then, America(ns) might be held responsible for their crimes! ::GASP::

3. * has shown the UN
to be absolutely powerless. Do we want to show the WC to be a paper tiger also? Because nothing the international community can do will get a US president in the dock for waar crimes. While he is president, he has the power to prevent that. After he is out of office, no president, NO PRESIDENT is going to set such a horrible precedent. He might wind up there, himself.

4. Then maybe this is the end of the world
if criminals can't be made accountable for their actions. I also believe it is the end of America as a democracy as well.

5. Can't
At least not in the ICC, due to the fact that we un-signed the Rome Statute, plus the American Servicemember's Protection Act, aka the "Hague Invasion Act".
