I have Constitutional guestions for anyone..
Edited on Sat Nov-06-04 10:03 PM by myday38
If shrub got his people on the Supreme Court that share his mind set and they were to make changes or provisions to the Constitution that allowed for the representation of religious values or declarations of God in government would they not have to define these values or define God in the sense that would appease him (shrub) and his extremists. Because if they didn't define God specifically would it not then leave things open to any God of any other religion.
Which I KNOW that won't happen. And if they define it to suit them won't that be a huge slap to all the other people of culture living in this country? How, politically, could the Republican party survive with that kind of religious bigotry knowing that it slaps the face of every immigrant from foriegn lands that ever came here.

1. Why do you think they give a crap
about slapping the face of anyone. They don't really seem to like ANYONE that isn't just like them. Immigrants, jews, muslims, gays, atheists, blacks. We all suck according to them. The Republican party not only can survive with that sort of bigotry, they are thriving on it right now.

If they try to change the constitution, they would try to change it to define God as THEIR God. You know, the scary one that no one recognizes as a Jesus type.

2. First of all, "they" HATE the Constitution.
Next, "they" don't care about "other" people.

Didn't you get the memo? Either you're with us (them) or with the terrorists.

And besides "their" God is the only one that counts.

We are all in Bushaziworld now.

3. The Supreme Court can't change the Constitution.

All they can do is interpret it (which could be enough of a problem if more wingnuts get appointed). The Constitution can be amended in one of two ways.  First, amendment can be done by a vote of two-thirds of both the House of Representatives and the Senate, followed by a ratification of three-fourths of the state legislatures. Second, the Constitution might be amended by a Convention called for this purpose by two-thirds of the state legislatures, and then the Convention's proposed amendments have to be ratified by three-fourths of the state legislatures (the second method has never been used). This is why the Constition has not been amended very often.

There have been some attempts to enact federal legislation that would eliminate federal court jurisdiction over issues involving religion, but this would almost certainly be found unconstitutional, even by a very conservative Supreme Court -- because the Court is very protective of its jurisdiction and doesn't like to see Congress mess with the separation of powers.
