Where and to whom should I send this:
November 6, 2004
To: ????
I have a really great suggestion for one of those “unscientific polls” which your organization posts on your website. It would “precisely” be phrased as follows:
Do you think that your vote was accurately tabulated in the Presidential Election of 2004? Please check only one box.
< > Yes, I have full confidence in the election process in correctly tabulating all votes cast.
< > I have heard that there may have been some minor problems, but I generally have confidence that our election process accurately represents the will of the people.
< > Nothing is perfect, but, I have to believe that the election officials have done the best job they could to insure that the election system yielded the will of the people.
< > Well, I really don’t know, but, I have heard that there might be some significant problems that cause me to wonder whether my vote was really recorded.
< > NO, between what I have heard about the way votes were tabulated, and many of the possible “glitches”, I have very little confidence regarding the results!

I would hope that this sort of poll may be of interest to your news organization in creating a greater confidence in our electoral process.
Most Sincerely,
