A small ray of sunshine.
I just won a seat in the New Hampshire House of Representatives. I am one of 26 NEW seats won by the Democrats. We defeated our Republican governor and I will now serve under a Democrat and for the first time in a long time we elected a Democratic presidential candidate!!!!

Since New Hampshire prides itself on our "first in the nation" status, I think it is fitting that we be the first red state to go blue and start the tide turning in the Democratic direction.

We fought hard and we logged tons of hours on the streets and on the phones. It can be done. I have never seen so many volunteers and I have been doing this for some time. We must find these volunteers in all of the red states and we will be victorious. I think we should start now for the next election.

6. Wow.
I have been finding hope in small places, looking toward the future.

This made my jaw drop with happiness. This is exactly what we need to do in every state. That's how we help the people.

16. Congrats - BIG TIME! Your first duty:
Take a sledgehammer to those infernal electronic vote incinerators. Paper and pencil's the future of voting.

17. In NH
we vote with magic markers on paper ballots. We fill in the dots! They are counted electronically, but it's pretty foolproof.

24. Good Luck to you.
We need more courage in this party. I just hope that the tide will turn. I find it interesting that my state swept Democrats into both houses of the legislature. We also voted for several tax increases. So, if Colorado can do what it did this year, I guess there must be hope. Also we elected Ken Salazar to the U.S. senate.

26. Congrats JeniB
Glad you are representing us in the State House. Our efforts in NH were a bright spot in this otherwise bleak election. Think about it - we won the state for John Kerry, we kicked out a horrendous, corrupt Repub governor, and we made some modest gains in the State Senate. We were energized, and made the Blue parts of the state even moreso.

Congrats again, and good luck in Concord!

27. Thanks so much Granite!
I had a meeting today and it was great meeting all the new Dem Reps. A lot of us were women and not real old, which is also a jump forward for NH.

32. This is where it starts
To take back the country, we need to start at school boards and town councils and county and state legislatures. I saw the returns and you must've done a lot of hard work in a short period of time, JeniB. We're all very proud of you. :yourock:

33. Yep!
and yep.

That's how the fundies got in--starting with the schoolboards and reintroducing creationism. They had long-term vision and planned accordingly. So must we.
