Did We lose the Jewish vote?
Edited on Fri Nov-05-04 06:11 PM by TexasSissy
I have heard that a Jewish man at my work place, who is a Democrat, voted for *. On the other hand, a neighbor of mine who is Jewish, stayed true to his Dem. Party roots and voted for Kerry.

My question is ...did we lose the Jewish vote?

I heard on Air America he won it hugely (the Al Franken show this morning). But we Jews are only 3% of the electorate.

I just spoke to my some one in the Jewish community and she told me they went 90% for Kerry. Kerry even went to their center and spoke to them. They had meetings and talks among themselves and came to the decision to support Kerry.

6. The exit polls answer just these type of questions
Edited on Fri Nov-05-04 06:38 PM by andym
Among jewish voters who made up 3% or the sample:
Kerry got 74%, Bush got 25%.

Bush did gain 6% from 2000, but still the large proportion of the jewish vote remained with Kerry

Bush gained 5% more of the Catholic vote (which makes up 27%) and 3% more of the Protestant vote (which makes up 54%). He even picked up 1% of the none.

The only religious group where he lost was with Other (-5%).

The only religious groups where the majority went for Kerry was
jewish 74%
none 67%
other 74%

13. Thanks, guys! I'm so relieved to hear that. The Jewish vote
is very important to the Democrats, IMO. The Jewish causes have been a concern of the Dem. Party for years, so I'd hate it if we lost their vote after all this time.

As far as the ONLY groups where the majority went for Kerry, you say the Jewish, "none," and "Other." But didn't Kerry also get the majority of African Americans and single women?

17. Yes, Bush didn't gain with African Americans,
or single women significantly,

His edge was strictly on the evangelical tip

21. The previous message is a breakdown by religion
Edited on Fri Nov-05-04 06:37 PM by andym
Sorry by groups I meant religious groups.

by ethnicity/race:
Kerry won with
African Americans 88% (bush picked up 2%)
Latinos 53% (bush picked up 9%)
Asians 56% (bush picked up 3%)
Other 54% (bush picked up 1%)

and lost with Whites 41% (Bush got 58%, a gain of 4%)

Kerry won with women overall 51 to 48%,

With race/ethnicity, Kerry won with non-white men (Kerry got
67%) and non-white women (Kerry got 75%)
and lost with white men (Kerry got 37%) and white women (Kerry
got 44%)

8. No.
Bush did somewhat better this time, but it was still overwhelmingly Democratic.

On Tuesday, Bush won that second term by a narrow margin, but apparently without a significant boost from the Jewish community.

A year’s worth of high-powered Republican outreach to Jewish voters and widespread praise for the president’s pro-Israel policies produced only a small gain from the Bush-Cheney 2000 totals.

Bush garnered 24 percent of the Jewish vote — compared to 19 percent four years ago — while Kerry took 76 percent, according to an exit poll published by CNN and The Washington Post.

Privately, some pro-Israel activists worried that the lower-than-expected Jewish response to Republican overtures could have an impact on U.S. Mideast policy. But most analysts argued that Bush’s commitment to the Jewish state and his support for Prime Minister Ariel Sharon are more personal than political.

11. I know a Jewish woman who supports *.
Fortunately, she was to goddamn lazy to vote. A fellow Dem friend tried to convince her to vote but she didn't want to stand in line. We told her that pregnant women get to go to the front of the line. She still wouldn't go. Now, if we could only find some more of these right-wing nuts. They're too crazy to vote.

She's married to a gentile and wants her kid raised as a Christian. She complained about being taunted for being a Jew as a child. Yet, she is a racist She only wants to live in white areas with white schools. She said that she was for * because Republicans work and Democrats don't. I'm a pissed off Democrat who no longer wants anything to do with the selfish little bitch. I lost her # when I broke my cell phone last week and haven't spoken with her since.

I didn't know she was so hateful. How do you tell someone that you don't want to be their friend because of their hateful, racists attitudes? Advice anyone?

15. Just either quit talking to her, or be evasive and not have time.
Or come out and say it.

I was forming a telephone friendship with someone who had initially called me about a sick neighbor of mine. He was a friend of hers and wanted me to check on her. We had several phone conversations, and I found him pretty interesting. Until....he started in the Mel Gibson movie The Passion...and about how he agrees with Mel's father that 6 million Jews did not get killed in the holocaust, it's a conspiracy, yada yada yada. I couldn't believe my ears. I just quit answering the phone for a couple of weeks, and when I got his messages, didn't return the calls (he wasn't a friend, so I didn't feel I owed him an explanation).

I'm too upset to confront someone verbally at this time. Thanks for the feedback.

14. Oh, yes, I know, and I do. I was just concerned about the Dems.
losing the support of some key groups. I consider the Jewish group one of those key groups, even though they are not that large a group.

along with the youth votes because the young people DID turn out, and if you want proof, and the disparity between the exit polls and the final results won't convince you, check out rockthevote.com
