Canada is an obvious choice for most. The bar to residency there is relatively low if you have an education and/or a job. Any thoughts as to other desirable countries that have at least some decent healthcare, a moderate standard of living, and aren't waging war on the rest of the world on a regular basis? - K

1. Canada
I would love to go someplace warm like Costa Rica, but the hubby has been wanting to return to the north for some time (family in Montana) so Canada is his choice. We just talked about it this morning and he said it was up to me. If I say the word, we're gone.

Yesterday I was feeling determined to stay and help fight for what I believe America should be. But today it hit me that this country is never going to change until it hits rock bottom. I think it was the news about Lockheed's new $245 BILLION dollar contract for warplanes that just made me realize our tax dollars are never going to stop being wasted on a HUGE military budget. I just can't support that anymore.

One thing that will change my mind is if the Dem party or other powerful progressives (Moore, Palast, etc.) get behind the investigation of the election fraud. That would give me the hope to stay. Of course I'll do what I can - have already donated to BBV - but we need to hear the bigger voices speaking out on this. Maybe they're still amassing the evidence. I'll be patient. But if it never comes.....we're out of here.

2. Why don't you check into one of the other threads on this topic?
Do we really need a new one?

3. I have given thought to emigration and decided against it.
If the state of our nation is as bad as we think, it speaks very badly for the security of ALL nations in the future.

We have the most power to kill this threat in its crib before it spreads.

4. Thinking about it
But hoping to hold out until the midterm elections. If they give the Repubs a greater hold on Congress, I'll finish off my Master's and get out.

Though if things go seriously to hell before then, I might go sooner.

Canada is the easiest, I think, just due to language/proximity concerns.

6. Ireland, New Zealand, Czech Republic.
Haven't decided yet, but if DU is any indication, even the Dems don't want a gay man here anymore.

7. Report on NPR today:
New Zealand says that immigration quiries from the US went up 400% on Nov 3rd. The New Zealand official also noted that it has never been easier to immigrate to the island nation.
