It is clear to me that there are two intellectual struggles that need to occur within the progressive movement before we can move forward and confront the clear and present theocratic danger in America. Until we resolve these internal struggles, we will not effectively challenge those who have the clarity and lack of doubt that epitomizes the true zealotry that threatens our way of life.

Both of these struggles are the result of cognitive frames that have trapped us in divisively eating our own tails. In order to attempt to keep some coherence in this discussion, I will post about each separately.

The topic of this post is the "Marxian" frame, that views the world as a class-struggle over economic power.

The topic of the next post will be the frame that sees this as a struggle between "good" Christians and "bad" Christians over the votes of "faith-based" voters.

I originally posted this, in abreviated form, as a reply to a comment arguing that the theocrats were merely pawns in the hands of a "dark army" of plutocrats. I thought it merited its own dairy entry, because I think we need to understand that we are in a different time, a different struggle, facing a different foe than the traditional American struggle between conservatism and liberalism.

The basic argument, as I understand it, is between people who all agree that there is a "dark army". The disagreement is over its essence.

I argue, have consistently argued, and will consistently argue, that the Left--and the traditional Right, including the Neocons--has Marxian blinders on. By this I mean that every issue, every struggle, is interpreted through an economic lens, and specifically through a class-struggle economic lens.
