to me this morning while I was doing breakfast duty in the cafeteria. I am the school counselor in a small west Texas town. They all said "Did you vote for Kerry?" I proudly said,"I sure did!" Almost in unison they said "EWWW--he's bad!!" I asked what they were talking about and one said, "He's not good!" I asked again what they were talking about and they went off saying "He's bad!"
Now I can't be positive what all the implications are here, but I been kicking around this old world for about 58 years, so I have a bit of insight. In my opinion, these kids are parroting their parents, who have been sold the idea that Democrats are evil. We have to refute this framing of us as 'unpatriotic', heretic, traitorous, evil, etc. We absolutely have to come up with a counter-wurlitzer. With Scaife, Coors, and the others funding all the RW think-tanks and the ever-playing round of RW talk radio--with the CONSTANT use of exactly the right words to demonize us on the left-- until we can come up with a pervasive balance for these we are behind the curve. Anyone else noticed what used to be--correctly-- called "fundamentalist" (read: Shi'ite) now , in the major media, is referred to as "evangelical"? Subtle--but effective! The RW (Frank Luntz and his ilk) are masters at this. We have to have a counterbalance!
