What would have happened if we had boycotted the election?
As it stands, I don't know if we lost or not. Diebold. BBV. "Deliver Ohio".

What if there's no paper trail next time, too? What if we all strike the election until they prove to us that we can be certain our vote counted? After all, we have another on in two years.

1. A boycott by Dems would have resulted in a Bush "mandate"
Never boycott an election.

4. If the media declares a mandate and
the asshole rules like he got one, what is the point in voting? It would be a more powerful protest if the repukes get 80% in a 20% turnout than the 51% (like they really got that many votes) of a 60% turnout.

6. I suppose Rayburn's Law might apply, in theory
After President FDR's whopping landslide reelection victory in 1936 House Speaker Sam Rayburn (a Democrat) is quoted as saying:

"When you get too big a majority, you're immediately in trouble."

He was right in that case, but IMO when the actual vote is close the opposition's strength in numbers serves as an important reminder that we are not of one mind as a nation.

5. Oops. That does make sense.
Damnit. I just can't stop thinking about what we can do, in the event that there is no progress over the next year or two.

Thanks.

2. Why not hold your own elections, elect your own representatives?
(half-serious here)

3. I think that we should boycott.
There is no difference between not voting and what happened Tuesday.
