will Bush be on the ballot in Illinois?
Due to the late GOP convention several states' filing deadlines will be missed. Some states are quietly changing the date special just for Bush, but Illinois is controlled by Democrats and the state board of elections was still deliberating on the issue a couple of months ago. They had asked the Attorney General for an advisory opinion on the matter, but I have heard nothing since then. Anyone know the status of this situation?

1. I would say he will be but it will be the same result as 2000
A landslide victory for the Democratic candidate again.

2. I have not heard anything on that issue but...
Another question for Illinoiers, why the hell do we have the very last primary? By the time we get to vote everything will be decided and candidates will ignore our issues. Who determines when we have our primary and why can't we be a trendsetter, be the first northern industrial state to have their primary and have some effect on the race.

3. Illinois doesn't have the last primary
When I lived there, it took place around March 17-has that changed? Here in AR, the primary takes place in late May-long after every candidate, even for dogcatcher, has been decided.

5. My mistake
I read a trib article the other day and they had Illinois listed last but the heading was "key" primary dates, Illinois was the last listed out of 29 here: http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/chi-0308310382aug31,1,2350754.story

A quick google turned up this:http://www.state.ma.us/sec/ele/elepdf/presprim04.pdf

which shows 14 other states later than us. Still wish we were one of the early ones attracting the candidates before they start.

4. I went to the board of elections meeting a month or so ago-
when this issue was on the agenda. The room was full to overflowing, and the BOE pulled some kind of parlimentary move, meaning that everyone had to leave, and the issues were ttabled, i believe, and I haven't heard anything further on the issue.
My guess is that he will be, and the rules will be changed quietly to accomodate him.
I sure hope not, but that's the way the system works, the people be damned and kept in the dark.

6. Maybe you could write them a letter asking for a status report
this should not be allowed to be quietly discarded by the good old boys.

7. the state I care most about is West Virginia
Bush doesn't have a chance in Illinois anyway, but if he stays off the ballot in WV, we automatically win there.
