From France : We are with you for the Great Day !
Finaly the time has come. Let me tell you (vanity, I'm not an ambassador but I DO SPEAK THE TRUTH HERE) that France stands besides you for that great day.
You can't imagine that, never ever in history an American election received a such incredible media cover in France. Every day now (and since a few weeks if not months) the American election is the second headline in all channels evening news just after a local subject. Every day, images from both candidates' rallies, their "bon mot", the polls, analysis and predictions etc... Believe me or not there is more media cover for that election and more passion than it was for the european elections a few months ago. And guess who is the favorite here! ;)
For Election night it will be special (night long!) program on the two main channels and on many other smallest channels like news channels.
I will not say that we are praying for JK because , uhmm we are French lol but barely, and some will do certainly. Anyway, we are with you be sure. No pasaran! Go America, Go Kerry, to victory.

Even myself I'm influenced by the way the GOP turned the world into since 4 years, let me tell you how. First I do believe now that it's a fight between Good and Evil and second I've got a damn "freeper gut feeling" that it will be a landslide for Kerry.

Oh you can't imagine how it is to be a spectator only and can't act.

I and all my family are with you in soul and thoughts. Sorry for that "mess of a post" but I write as it comes and it brings tears to my eyes.

13. Good Luck
The news here in Scotland is saying, although it's still very close, Kerry is gaining ground on the forces of Darkness.
Think positive! We can do this!

The fact that people are posting from as far as Scotland and France, shows just how important it is to the world that John Kerry wins. Everyone here will be praying for victory. Bush is a lunatic!

Good luck, we are with you every step of the way.

5. Thank you so very much!
I appreciate the concern. Much of this country is in need of an education. This election should not even be so closely contested. But it helps enormously to know that the rest of the world is aligned with the good side.

I am not as optimistic as I would be if Congress were to be a majority of Democrats. I am affraid this will be some years of fruitless efforts. At least the Bush dynasty won't be flexing it's political muscles.

Thank you Rochambeau!

We're out to show the world tomorrow just how much we disapprove of B*sh's administration. More of us than they know understand that this is Good vs. Evil. Those sentiments don't show up in these inaccurate polls, but we'll let the world know what we think tomorrow. ;)

31. Of course I think of all the US military today in Iraq
I've said it already but to me they are exactly the same as those brave men who came in Normandy. They are not responsible and they are sure to do the good thing because of all the propaganda they have to swallow. It's very conforting to know that still today there are young americans ready to fight to help other peoples in the name of our values. Today they are misleaded and fooled (and it's the Bush's true crime to use and spoil their lives and high spirit and discredit our values) but their courage is still intact.
To say that they are a great generation too has no sense to me because I think of those who were in Korea and in VietNam too. So, all of them were a great generation? It has no sense but it has sense to say "no, they were americans". You can be proud of your nation and you don't have today the government you deserve. Bush spoils America it's a crime for the whole world.
One more day.

30. "Agreed. I eat France."
Edited on Mon Nov-01-04 03:28 PM by Polly Glot
In the US several years ago there was an ad for Visa that had a young, presumably American, couple motoring through France when their car breaks down. To the best of my recollection of it, a stranger comes up and helps the vacationers get back going. The wife tells the husband to say something nice to the stranger. The doltish husband blurts out, "Je MANGE France!"

I don't know why that has stuck with me all these years but it does still make me chuckle.

On edit: I am in now way trying to sound flippant about the gracious support proffered from our European neighbors. Au contraire, I can only imagine how frustrating it must be for our neighbors world-wide to suffer so horrifically under our mad King George but be unable to do virtually anything about it. It is with all my treasured friends overseas in mind that I will exuberantly cast my ballot for Kerry tomorrow!

42. First the French are anti-Bush that's true. It's incredible it was despise
it's almost hatred now. But because of the media cover the French know now what Kerry stands for, specialy about Iraq and his vision of the way the world should try to work (UN, old alliances etc...). Of course the French know less about Kerry than you americans know but they know enough now to feel what is the deal of that election.

I can't wait to see President Kerry in Paris. Just wait John Kerry's first speech in french in Paris and Theresa visiting museums and hospitals to see the French FALL IN LOVE with him the way we fell in love with John and Jackie Kennedy. The French are a bit childish on some points and the fact that both John and Theresa speak french and know France and her culture will do A LOT for them here. But they have to come in Paris for sure. I predict a terrific official state visit if they come. They'll be welcommed as kings.

111. An excellent question
We don't know Kerry very well, like many American I believe. We only can be "anti-Bush" for avoiding the worst.
And when we listen to Kerry we hear what the next American foreign policy could be. "We lead the world" has never been the best message the USA sent.

62. I'd love to see that movie
but I think he was actually Belgian...or from a gypsy tribe that traveled the Belgian, Alsace, Luxembourg area.

did you see The Triplets of Belleville, with the cartoon version of django?

88. Django was born in Wallonie (francophone Belgium) but he grew up
in Paris. He is historicaly concidered as French. His tribe (the Manouches) is usually concidered as the gypsies of France too even if they are nomads. Anyway, to end any debate ;) he was 100% a Parisian and it means a lot! Many persons are Parisians of heart even if they are from another country and it's neither antithetic nor impossible (T.Jefferson, E.Hemingway, Arthur Miller and many who had to escape MacCarthysm, P.Salinger to mention only a few Americans). Josephine Baker in the 30ies used to sing "J'ai deux amours, mon Pays et Paris." (I have two loves, my Country and Paris). Paris has always love Americans.

Not a mess of a post at all, I'll warrant your english is better than 80% of americans in any other language.

Recently I have gotten in the habit of playing backgammon on the zone, an MSN game site. There are people all over the world there that I play with and for everyone I meet overseas, I make it a point to apologize for our idiot of a presidnet, I truly am embarassed. I have been overwhelmingly been greeted with support for that statement, except for one gentleman from Israel. When he logged off he said he was a Colonel in the Isreali army.

Anyway, merci une autra et VIVE LE FRANCE!

It is also good to know that the you and your countrymen aren't begrudging the people of the US for some exceptionally shitty press they've gotten here.

Keep up the positive thoughts! We certainly could use them.

We will never forget how our great French allies responded to rid the wicked vermin Pommie Tyrant from American soil. We appreciate your support and are forever in your debt.....and will forever answer your calls of distress in times of need, as you answer ours...

I am an American citizen living in Australia. Every day I encounter anger from Australians and visitors from other countries because I am American. Those who know me know that I am against Bush and all he stands for, but those who do not know me are defensive - and I can't blame them. It is hard to see people's eyes fill with anger and hatred when they hear my accent.

So it is heartening and encouraging when I read posts such as yours, and I know that our brothers and sisters in other nations care and that they hope with us that the end of the great evil that has taken the helm of America is upon us. I am thankful to know that there are people in other nations who will be helping us in sorting out the mess and healing the wounds that this endless four years of nightmare have created.

It is almost over now. My birthday is on November 6, and I look forward to celebrating with a toast to President-elect Kerry - at a French restaurant!

>>I and all my family are with you in soul and thoughts.<<

Thank you from the bottom of my American heart for your uplifting, supportive and understanding post.
I am also writing as it comes, and your post has brought tears to my eyes as well.

We Democrats have understood for some time that our responsibility tomorrow is not only to ourselves and our country, but to the world, which is forced to stand by and hope we do the right thing.

I have always felt fortunate and blessed to have been born into a great nation, and tomorrow we WILL stand up and show the world, once again, that government of the people, by the people and for the people will NOT perish from this earth.

Even if, God forbid, we are not victorious tomorrow, we WILL continue to fight, to speak out, to exercise our inalienable right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness!

You may be assured that I take you into that voting booth with me tomorrow, Rochambeau, and I will be voting for John Kerry because I STRONGLY feel my obligation to do what I can to make the world a better place for ALL people.

I finished reading Les Miserables about a month ago and I'm so glad I did before this election. The French and Americans have so much in common - if there is one thing worth dying for it's what is going to take place Tomorrow! And I believe that the people will respect what has been given to them by voting against secrecy, oppression and power-politics.

Vive le Republique...

101. From my cousin in London
The following is most of an e-mail my cousin sent tonight from London.

She is an expat from Pennsylvania! Our family is from Ohio!

Hello family far and wide,

I hope that you're all doing well. I may be stuck
across the ocean, but am with you in spirit with the
election coming up tomorrow...

I placed my vote by absentee ballot about a month ago,
along with all the other Americans I know over here.
No one was going to let this one pass by without
getting their vote in. Now I'm just hoping the ballots
haven't been "lost in the mail"!

Aunt M very thoughtfully sent me a link to a
website to make sure that I was on the case with my
absentee ballot, and that gave me the idea of writing
to all of you just to say that I'm thinking of you and
that even though I can't be there in person - which is
very frustrating - I care so much about this election.
It means so much for the future of the country. And
for its position in the world. As I write this email,
there's yet another BBC report about Ohio on in the
background. I've never heard Ohio mentioned so many
times in such a short period of time -- Ohio-based
voters, you've got the power and the world knows it!

So I'll be thinking of you all tomorrow, hoping you
will all make it to the polls to help turn things
around.

GO KERRY!!!!!!!!!

I will be going to an election party with
some friends of ours - American and British - to watch
the CNN coverage live on a big screen with around 500
hundred other people. Should be something to watch!

Happy Election Day!

France, Scotland, Belgium, Autralia, England, everyone ....

I can't put the words together right now.

One thing good, this whole nightmare is making alot of people realize just how connected we all are.

Unbelievably sad and scary to know there are people here who don't get it. They would rather sit in their cold little prisons of hate or ignorance or fear, venturing no further than their house and Church where everyone looks and talks the same. I wouldn't want to feel that way, the feeling here on this thread is something I wish they could know.

Just talking too as it comes.

Un autre merci ... uh, did that resemble French at all? :)
