Are Mormons and/or Quakers conscientious objectors?

There's a very peculiar photo on the front of the Orlando Sentinel today. There are three draft-age men in black hat and religious garb and two young boys in their group are holding a sign that read, "Veterans for Bush." ??? I believe the photo was taken in Sioux City, Iowa.

Perhaps they're running out of over-protected white males to sign loyalty oaths for their faked campaign rallies?

15. Quakers, Amish, Mennonites, and a couple of small offshoot sects

are all conscientious objectors. Amish went so far as to reject the use of buttons on their clothing, since buttons were most often seen on military clothing at that time.

It was extremely difficult during the Vietnam years to get CO status if you were not a member of one of these groups.

My advice to anyone who wants CO status if there's a draft is to get going on paperwork now, affidavits from ministers, teachers, and anyone else in any sort of authority will help. An evaluation by a psychologist can also come in handy.

And they're very liberal. Anti-war, anti capital punishment.

But they will enter non-bearing arms positions such as Medics/Hospital Corpsmen one of the most dangerous of jobs, and do so willingly.

British Quakers during WW often entered into Bomb Disposal so I have been told over the years.

Yes Quakers are Society of Friends. They have people in Iraq on missions of mercy. They do not preach.

My Grand parents were Quakers. It is the only formal religion I have ever been exposed too and no I am not a Quaker. If I were religious I would chose to be a Quaker. They walk the walk.

I do donate to The American Friends Service Committee, part sponsors of the 1,100 flag draped coffins in DC.

...founder had an army assembled to fight the U.S. Federal forces in the event of an invasion in Utah, if memory serves me correctly about part of the history of that territory.

And, yes, they are also called The Society Of Friends. Quakers
have always counseled young people who refuse to serve in the
military.

I used to attend a Friends meeting in Langley, VA that was right down
the road from the CIA building there. And the FBI used to come to
meetings and attend all the committee meetings. They were really
quite hilarious. They stood out like sore thumbs. They couldn't
hide their rage at the Quakers for not supporting the Viet Nam
war.

They have what are called "clearness" meetings in which they counsel
people wrestling with issues of conscience concerning war. It is something to be undertaken after a great deal of soul searching and
talking it over with a community to like minded souls. They never
encourage anyone to do anything that does not stem from their deepest
beliefs as the consequences are often so difficult.

That photo with the people in black hats with beards and a sign
"Veterans for Bush" was supposed to be a pic taken in Amish country
a few days ago. But I wonder about that one too. I didn't know
that the Amish went to war. I'll have to look it up.

interestingly enough, Jehovah's Witnesses are CO's as well, not because they are pacifists, but because they avoid anything that involves respecting earthly governments, such as pledging allegiance to the flag or voting.

Mormons are almost always right-wing Republicans.
