Amber Alert - for a child abduction case - They are going to terrify us
Edited on Sun Aug-31-03 12:00 AM by Tinoire
until the neo-cons get what they want. What has our country come to when you can't even post on a political board anymore as you run Grease in the background to provide a little light relief without having Ashcroft terrifying you into how unsafe our country has become that he has to interrupt your life, your normally scheduled programming.

Abducted by her father, x y, a man of Arab descent. And while somewhere a little girl may be hurt, abused and or dead you have to wonder

- how society became this evil
- if it's even true (because we need to demonize the Arabs)
- what will they do next with this tool

and feel bad for doubting, for the sake of that little girl you should keep your eyes open for in case she crosses your path

and angry that they are preparing to use this tool to fuck with our minds as they pursue the mad course they're on

....

and then everything is back to its normally scheduled programming except for that little girl if she exists. Sorry for my rant. Thank you for listening.

1. What the hell is your problem
This is a system designed to help abducted children. And it has been successful.

Sorry if it interrupted your regularly scheduled program.

16. Can't resist
Half man, half biscuit, half the post- if even that much.

The dark labyrinthes of the brain- but to follow them, you need to leave your regularly scheduled programming.

2. I think you may be confusing the Amber Alert for a missing child
Edited on Sat Aug-30-03 11:17 PM by dflprincess
with our color coded terror threat rating.

The "Amber" referred to when a child is missing is named for a little girl who was kidnapped and killed a few years ago. Her parents pushed for legislation that would get the word out quickly when a child is abducted.

on edit: deleted redundancy in my post

6. The little girl's name was Amber
The legislation that was passed to get information about abductions out quickly calls it an "Amber Alert". I belive some states started this prior to 9/11.

9. Thanks- I understood that
It was merely the factoid that both use the same termilogy, same color... Just the factoid coincidence. But thanks for taking the time to explain.

8. Thanks... My thoiught was that it's the same... That's all.
Edited on Sun Aug-31-03 12:03 AM by Tinoire
I know all about the sad story behind amber and why it's called that.

The coincidence that it's the same is sad and a convenient thing for them because no matter how worthy the whole system is, for I am not questioning its worthiness or even its necessity, it will be a very easy tool to use when they want to transition to the "let's terrify the shit out of the American people with terror warnings" that will be brought into our homes the same way.

I was merely thinking out loud in my initial post about what sad times we're living in.

12. The Amber Alert system is set up to protect children
It is a good thing that has saved lives. Google it.

I guess extreme paranoia is hard to overcome.

14. Criminy! I get it, Tin, and kinda got the willies
when I read your post and then I honestly felt the pieces connect.

Honestly I don't think they need much help to scare the bujeezus out of most of us anymore, and that IS extremely sad.

15. Whew! Thank you :)
I was wondering if I'd maybe totally lost my touch with stream of consciousness posts... The worst was when it so aruptly went back to "Grease" without even a moment of silence.

And it's right in my part of town... Evil so close to home with a bigger evil piigy-backing on it.

Thanks my friend. I hope they find her very soon and that we can ward off that other evil too... Peace

I think the amber alert system is a great idea. That doesn't stop the corporate news, in cooperation with the BFEE, from exploiting it to scare us for the next couple of weeks.

Besides what could be better than having the bad guy be an Arab male? Forget about all the amber alert victims we don't hear about because they are not as ripe for exploitation.

17. Tinoire, I tried to post a similar concern about this whole Amber alert
Edited on Sun Aug-31-03 06:04 AM by Dover
thing with similar results a few months ago. I was concerned about the kind of over-the-top crisis control, big brother alert systems being put in place, all in the cause of child abductions.(the tracking technology reminded me a little of the movie Logan's Run). The issues of children or child abuse are often used as the chain to yank in order to raise the fear level and justify a lot of control mechanisms. Of course who WOULDN'T want every means possible put into place to save the children... That's a very vulnerable area.

Only thing is, the statistics don't support all this hype (which is not to diminish the horrendous losses that do occur). But something much more sinister seems afoot as our dependence on the government for our sense of safety increases, and we so readily surrender our privacy and peace of mind.
It's a little like those helicopters that shine their blaring lights and whip up anxiety in their propellors as they hover like giant terrifying birds of prey over many neighborhoods in California. Is this how we want to live? Does it make you feel more safe or raise the anxiety level? Does the reality even justify it? How many people form their reality from the images and stories that have been culled and magnified by the media?
What about the reality we are creating?

18. Did you notice Fox is now in the business of spreading fear?
Watched a few minutes of their program last night about bio-terrorism and how anyone can wipe out a major city. Scary stuff, intended to increase fear and mistrust and reliance upon our rulers.

20. Yep. And where will terrified parents draw the line? Will they implant
their children with a tracking device? Is life that scary?
Walk out your door right now. Do you feel afraid? Of what are you afraid and what actual experiences, as opposed to media hype, has fed those fears? Or is your immediate environment and your life actually pretty ordinary and peaceful.
What's your REAL reality?

This is mind control people. Rats in a maze.
