What was your response to GM's claims that Sinclair...
...had "freedom of the press" or "free speech rights"?

Obviously what they're doing is libel, but that can't be sorted out until the courts have their say. I could send them a copy of the Title 11 election law, I suppose...you know, the one that Sinclair is breaking?

Any other ideas?

1. My response to them was:
We own FOUR GM vehicles in this house. We have been life-long purchasers of GM cars. That will no longer be the case. They are finished in this house.

ON EDIT - DOH! I Thought you meant GENERAL MILLS. . . .who has a similar spin.

:dunce:

-------------------------------------------------------------------
SUBJECT: What if Sinclair Was Lying about General Mills? Would that be ok too?

What if Sinclair Broadcasting did a news show on General Mills where you were:

1. Quoted out of context and edited to make it appear you said things you never said
2. Lied About by people with close financial ties to your competitors.

and it had all been disproved ahead of time by responsible news organizations like MSNBC and Nightline?

Would that be "freedom of the press" or "diverse opinions?"

I want you to understand the seriousness of what Sinclair is doing. I would be just as upset if Sinclair were airing proven lies about President Bush. This is an abuse of the public airwaves, and you need to stand up to it.

I am a long time customer of yours and your many brands. But I would be more than happy to seek alternatives if need be.

Respectfully yours,

Emulatorloo

However, nobody is reading the emails - I just get boilerplate back from all of them re "diverse opinions" and "freedom of the press."

3. Actually I did mean General Mills...LOL.
There wasn't enough space to spell it out in the title. My bad. GM is usually used to denote General Motors.

5. So when you say "BC04" do you mean Bush Cheney or Betty Crocker?

4. For the third time
It's NOT a First Amendment, Freedom of Speech or Freedom of the Press issue. Not in the least. No way, no how.

The First Amendment guarantees against GOVERNMENT censorship and interference, not private censorship and interference. DU Admin, for example, can "censor" any speech they want, with impunity. They own the place, they get to say what is and is not okay to say.

It appalls me that so many people are so basically ignorant of what the First Amendment does and does not cover. Unfortunately, even many journalists -- and apparently media owners -- are including in this appalling lot.
