Bush radio address: was that really Bush?
I was half-listening to the radio this morning while fixing breakfast. I actually at first thought it was some strange caller to a talk show or something, strange because he was talking too fast and sounded like he was reading instead of just talking.

Then I realized it was Bush, but thought he still sounded really strange. I figured he just hadn't practiced his speech this week.

But now I just listened again at the white house's website, and I seriously think this does not sound like Bush. It sounds more like Ross Perot.

Here's the link to the streaming audio:

1. Sounded like Perot?
Was he talking about "the giant sucking sound" of his Fraudministration sending America to Hell in a handbasket?

5. That's not Bush...
The nasal intonations almost sound like his, but this guy has a slight lisp, and talks a lot faster. Weird.

I listened to an older radio address and it was slower. I was wrong, that is Bush, but he sounds like he's on uppers or something.

On edit: here's a link to an older radio address:

16. this speaker, aside from the accent, has good diction
in terms of pronouncing words. Bush does not.

At first I thought it was a tape - of Bush - just being played at too fast of a speed (remember playing a 45 record at 78?) - that would account both for the speed and the slightly higher pitch in tone than Bush's voice. But the diction is very different. The only thing that sounds similar is the pause patterns (after about every phrase, a slight down pitch at the end of a word and a pause).

31. Bush talks with "a mouthful of marbles"
That's what this trained actor who impersonates him has said.

6. lame little turd bump
spends a few weeks in Texas and now he thinks he's Sam Houston.

Got the affected drawl and I bet his swagger is even more exaggerated now too.

One of these days, he'll swagger (or stagger) off Air Force One wearing a six shooter and a star.

10. That isn't him
Whoever it is can read fast. He didn't make any mistakes. And he doesn't have that aggravating vacant pause where it doesn't belong 2 or 3 times in each sentence.

13. Just Texan Talk
He's just excited to be out in the sticks where no one can bug him.

Recently, I heard a guy from a local furniture store doing a remote radio broadcast during a big sales promotion, and it was very amusing, because he sounded just like Shrubya.

I'd also like to mention that my parents live in Waco, south of Crawford, home of the small and former pig farm now known as the Bush Ranch. All through the day and all through the night, a lone Air Force jet flies in big wide circles, 'round and 'round, safeguarding our great commander & creep. The pilot's route takes him over my parents' neighborhood. I look up and there he goes again. Bet he's as bored as Bush is clueless.

Yee haw!

Sorry, I could only listen to about 20 seconds of it before I started to have stomach pains. Sounded like he was annoyed because he had to take time away from fly fishing. What a putz.

19. I think it's him...
it's just the sound is sped up a little for some reason.

Remember, supposedly Bush can be a smooth-talker when he doesn't have to make stuff up off the top of his head, or look into a camera.

25. I Heard
all of 15 seconds of it, but it was the 15 seconds where he was trying to make us believe that "Labor Day" was invented to celebrate "labor" as in "work." No go, guy. "Labor" Day is about "labor" as in "organized." War is peace.

21. Talking way too fast and not his usual cadence. Maybe waiting for the
applause to subside .

The context of the speech was pure fantasy. Made me a bit ill.

23. Digital Edit perhaps
They just disassembled and reassembled his words like they do for a radio or TV commercial, maybe? Or he was excited 'cause he had some hookers coming over to El Rancho Shrubya.

28. definitely NOT the shrub, but close enough for ditto-monkey's
Edited on Sat Aug-30-03 09:56 PM by amen1234
who probably can't tell the difference, just adoring the shrub and all....this is a whole new level of pResidential projection for the upcoming elections...now they can just video-in the shrub for election fund raisers, with this voice overlay (which actually is much more understandable than the shrub)....and shrub can just continue drinking away either at the WH or Camp David...as the shrub himself noted that he is just a media creation...and now the voice...

chimpy's handlers had to do something....the chimp is sounding more and more drugged/alcoholic slobbering all the time...now, if they find a "look-alike", then the 'cheap-labor conservatives' can hold their power....IMO, they are looking right now, and doing auditions...

if they slowly phase-in the shrub look-alike, then most will believe it is the shrub himself....

for example...is this the shrub ??? did shrub really develop such a large belly while on vacation ??? or is this the new 'look-alike'

who is this guy???

29. It sounds edited to me
I've heard dumbass talk enough over the years here to recognize the timbre of his voice - it does sound like his. But, I can't remember him talking this quickly and flawlessly in a long time. I suspect they had him read his script slowly, and then ran the result through SoundForge or some other sound editor to speed it up while keeping the pitch about the same. To me that'd explain the odd limiting in that clip, making him sound as if he were holding his nose.
