The Bremer Administration Embezzled $8.8 billion
An Iraqi government report showed that the Bremer administration embezzled $8.8 billion in the form of salaries for fictitious people who do not exist, according to .www.karbalanews.net reporting from Akhbar Al-Khaleej Bahraini newspaper.

http://www.akhbar-alkhaleej.com/source/saturday/1.pdf, October 16, 2004.

This is the biggest Iraq scandal so far the Bush administration admits. The Iraqi government report will be issued by the Directorate of Iraqi Financial Supervision. The report is based on on the another report prepared by the US Financial Inspector of the Coalition Authority. The report demonstrated that Paul Bremer and a number of his aides cashed $8.8 billion, representing the gap between fictitious names and real names of the government employees.

The report shows that the Bush administration has acknowledged the occurrence of embezzlement in the Bremer administration.

props to River Blog http://theriverblog.blogspot.com for this, it would be in news but it is over a day old.

If you can't get the link to work, maybe a nerd will fix it or you can google or download the pdf or see if it clicks better from River Blog.

6. I'm sorry. I can't help it.
It's actually about $25 per person. 8,000,000,000 divided by about 300,000,000.

11. They make Al Capone look like a shoplifter!
Man, if he were alive today, he'd be really pissed he didn't go into government instead of having wasted his time with running booze, hookers and gambling enterprises!

There's no way Capone ever made $8 billion from that penny-ante stuff!
